No problem. Just tell the landlord it's not your cat, it just hangs out here, you've tried to get rid of it, but...

"I guess I could go to the Humane Society, but I consider them a gestapo organization. I think it is easier to adopt a child than to adopt a pet from them."

Still, I think the humane society is the way to go. You just have to pay for the shots and neutering/spaying up front. They destroy so many animals. It is a way to save at least one.

I agree with you about the Humane Society. They'd rather euthanize the animals than allow renters to have them. They immediately assume if you are a renter, you are evil and will abandon your pet. I have gotten three cats from them, once when I was a student, renting, and two since I've been a homeowner.

We have some non-kill cat shelters around here which are pretty good. Sometimes the Petsmart/Petcos show kittens too. All have fees around $65 - 75 which includes everything to get started.

Thank you for the link. When CAP water arrived in '92, a lot of people's pipes burst because it was so yellow and disgusting. The city is still paying lawsuits. We and the cats only drink bottled water, but if we start getting sewer water, I'll have to get that purification system.

One of the most idiotic things I ever heard was during the CAP dedication ceremony. I was there with a bunch of my African and South American friends because we were all in a graduate "Arid Lands" class. The bureaucrats were claiming the next step was to drag icebergs south from Canada to provide our drinking water. Literally, drag by water. I'd say, uhhhh, stop building so many houses where there are no resources?!?!?

Have you adopted from the Humane Society lately? My local one does not post the adoption forms on their site, but the link above is fairly standard of their rules and regulations. Go through all three pages and tell me they are not intrusive in their questions. No wonder so many pets are put down instead of being released to good homes.

Good grief! That is ridiculous! No, I haven't gotten a pet from a humane society lately. My inclination would be to answer some of those questions, "none of your d**n business!"

Our weather is totally whacked. We're supposed to be in the 50's and 60's for the next 3 days, then drop back into the teens through 30's later in the week.

I've checked Petco and they say they do not show any pets, except from the Humane Society, which means I would have to deal with them.

We got our wonderful CC from a PassPets store, actually. He was a litter of kittens donated by a private individual. When we saw him in the window, we knew he was ours. We only had to pay for his shots and neutering fees. Of course, showing these kittens is a good business decision, as one comes inside and sees the more expensive breed cats.

Cost is really not a factor with me and the Humane Society. It is just their arrogant attitude that one must be within their stated parameters of what is good for a pet.

Yes, I thought you might enjoy reading that form. Did you notice the little notification of "spot checks" on the pet?

Yep, arrogant is exactly right. I thought it was only our local chapter! My friend, the most responsible person in the world, just tried to adopt from the Tucson chapter. Since she lives in Phoenix, they wouldn't let her - and she had already picked the cat out. It broke her heart. I told her to go back and use my address, but she didn't. What a crock. I cannot stand them.

I won't adopt from the places that do home visits either. We have nothing to hide, but it's none of their dam# business. Most of ours have been strays who found us.

The last time I went there, I made up some stuff. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I forgot to add in my last post that the Humane Society has been nice for small towns that used to have the "dog pounds". Our town pays an annual fee to HS for them to house and destroy animals, and thus they only have to have one animal control officer on the city payroll. But, they have made a bargain with the devil because HS is mainly controlled by PETA these days. Thus the stringent rules as to whether you are a fit "companion" for the pet.

Gone are the days when a child could go to the pound and pick out a puppy or kitten without jumping through hoops such as these. Borax is correct, they would rather kill animals than give them to a home that is not up to their standards. Doesn't this remind you of the abortionists philosophy?

If you guys, and all those cats, are using bottled water, the Berkey would pay for itself in no time...you must be spending a small fortune every month for your water.

OK, I'll tell Iceman; thanks! He keeps mentioning getting something like that. I drink a lot of sparkling mineral water - my fave, but yes, it all sure adds up.

Maybe I could give you a sample of our purified water when you're here?

Hey guys,

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack in the saddle again.Yahoooooooooooooo!!!

Got my PC all set up and now I can start working on this room. OMG! am I tarrrrd. My legs feel like two wooden stumps, and at this point I have to sit pretty often or I look like I need a walker. Al's not much better. Can you believe it, we actually took time for lunch today.

I still have so much to do, but of course you must all know that. You can't do it all in two days, but at least I can now find a path thru some of the rooms.

Will try to take some pics of the slight progress soon. It's still pretty hinky around here and will be for some time, but I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately what it tells me....is I still have some shopping to do...lol lol lol..

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh myyyyyyyyyy.. a woman's favorite words.. ;)

That would be great! It looks like I could call you Thursday to see if you are available for Happy Hour... so far, no scheduled activities that night. Our manager is out deathly sick, as per usual, so you may be right, I might be able to leave some of the sessions. Most of that stuff has no relevance to us whatsoever. We can learn all the tools we want, but we still aren't allowed to have them, and don't have the personnel to operate them.

"because HS is mainly controlled by PETA these days. Thus the stringent rules as to whether you are a fit "companion" for the pet."

Yeah, it is oh so much more humane to kill them rather than give them a chance at life, a home and family. Kinda the same mentality that supports abortion.
