Late one night last week, I saw the newly restored version of "The High and the Mighty" on AMC. The movie hasn't been shown in decades. One of the first disaster genre fims, it also has a beautiful, haunting theme melody, which is whistled along with a lush orchestration. It stays with you. You can't get it out of your mind. I started thinking as to what other great songs have come from movies, and wondered what your favorites might be...
Man Of Constant Sorrow---from Oh Brother Where Art Thou
The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Once Upon A Time In The West
Somebody's Baby-Jackson Browne-Fast Times At Ridgemont High
All I can think of at the moment.
It gets in your head and you can't get it our for many days. The Lawrence of Arabia sound track is awesome from start to finish. Give it a listen. Maurice Jarre is the composer. great stuff.
"The Sting"
other notables:
"Patton"
"Raiders of the Lost Ark"
"Magnificent Seven"
"The Bridge on the River Kwai"
I think the complete quote is: "They've a good bass section, but not a top tenor among them."
"Thus Spake Zarathustra" ("Also Sprach Zarathustra") by Richard Strauss in response to Neitzche's "Thus Spake Zarathustra, a Book for None and Everyone"
Chariots of Fire
Love theme from St. Elmo's Fire
Terms of Endearment
Ice Castles
Let the River Run (from Working Girl)
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
In Your Eyes (from Say Anything)
There are probably too many to list.
Movies: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly; Midnight Express and Rocky.
TV: Black Sheep Squadron; Magnum,PI and The Saint.
Ditto. I got his other soundtracks after that.
A pox on you.
"Tonight is what it means to be young!"
"I can dream about you"
Good flick! And the music was great because of the contributions of Jim Steinem, the creator of the "Meatloaf" sound.
But I like the song anyway. LOL
The theme song from "A Beautiful Mind" sticks in my head presently. Considering that Charlotte Church was 16 when she sung it, I'm humbled.
sung it? Sang it? Hey, I'm a history Phd, what do you want?
Soundtrack / Main theme from:
Band of Brothers
Schindler's List
Saving Private Ryan
A Bridge Too Far (excellent)
The Longest Day (rousing good)
FYI..If you get a chance, they recently released the 25th anniversary DVD of Chariots of Fire...great clarity, and remasterd audio..amnd some superb bonus extras...includign current interviews with the original cast..
Third Man...absolutely..
What did I do, dude? I didn't give up TWO 9th inning HRs to the MFYs..
Thanks for the recommendation. My brother would love to get it for Christmas too.
I love it because I really only listen to the lush orchestral arrangement from the soundtrack. It's really quite stunning.

Hickman's stumbled twice like that recently. I hope he gets over it before it becomes a slump.
Besides, the Tribe is playing the Lollipop Guild for most of August, so they'll probably be staging a serious run for the wildcard now.
