Belgian Jewish schools won't teach sex-ed - Lose Gov. Recognition

A Jewish school in Belgium recently lost government recognition because it refuses to teach the required sexual education curriculum.

Five other schools are negotiating their status with the Department of Education over the issue. Losing their status as recognized schools would entail a loss not only of subsidies, but also the schools’ capacity to award state-recognized diplomas.

Mordechai Stauber, principal of the Satmar Bais Rachel primary school in Antwerp, which lost its recognition, said, “The standards for sexual education are incompatible with Jewish beliefs.”

Yes I think it's fantastic. I just meant to say that I would gladly donate to these sorts of causes. If their gov't won't help them, then they should get the word out that they need money.

Who the hell are you to tell anyone what THEIR children should learn or not? If you are indeed like your tag, you should understand this. Your post makes you sound more like one who advances the idea of the nanny-state. We parents are too pathetically ignorant to raise our children right

I have no idea what the whole thing against safe-sex education is all about. I mean, it's the only real effective means to preventing unwanted/underage pregnancies, as we all know that abstinence-only education doesn't work, what with everybody having sex drives and all that....Does ANYBODY think about things before they do them?

The article doesn't indicate what the issues are. You seem to presume it's birth control. To my knowlege contraception is not incompatible with Jewish beliefs. Issues like promotion of homosexuality or gay marriage would be.

BTW Thinking about things before they do them is a great suggestion for sex ed.

Satmars don't need no steenkin' sex education. With an average of 10 kids per family, they are doing just fine.

from first-hand experience:
They are supplied with life-size penises, made to practice putting on a condom, taught clearly about homosexuality and that it should be seen as valid as heterosexuality.
Voila where your education dollars are going.
Many New York schools have to deal with dancing around this imposed nonsence.
