Word For The Day, Wednesday, September 21, 2005 - coquetry
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary ^ | 09/19/2005 | The Janitor

Posted on 09/21/2005 6:39:56 AM PDT by VRWCmember

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

coquetry \KOH-kuh-tree\ noun
a flirtatious act or attitude

Example sentence:
In a not-so-subtle act of coquetry, Nancy smiled flirtatiously and winked at Scott as she walked past him.

Did you know?
The rooster's cocky attitude has given him a reputation for arrogance and promiscuity. It has also given English several terms for people whose behavior is reminiscent of that strutting barnyard fowl. The noun "coquet" comes from French, where it is a diminutive of "coq," the French word for rooster. Originally, in the 1600s, English speakers used "coquet" to describe men who indulged in trifling flirtations. Today "coquet" can refer to male or female flirts (though "coquette," the French feminine form, is more commonly used for flirtatious women), and "coquetry" can refer to flirtation by men or women.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

You big Coq. Only 95 days until Christmas. We haven't gotten the Halloween stuff out of the attic yet.

Very first WFTD by Miss Annie:

FIRST WFTD

Do you think your word is similar, Mr. Coq? LOL!

Hope everyone is safe today. Miss Slip is down with a cold. Will you make Coq a Vin today, Mr. Liberty? Ah, "vin" is he same thing as wine. French. Forget the Coq, just give me vin.

Dixie, look for the Halloween stuff first. Then you'll find the Christmas stuff. Happens to me all the time. Don't panic. It's all right where you put it.

Dixie, Miss Rika knows she's invited here with her poochie-woochie. It's only 103. Not bad at all. We even have an unused doggie door.

Bing BING Bing!! I have think we have the real answer, for all the hoopla. However in fairness, the preparation is actually fairly normal. Perhaps a little more than the prep for last years, Or was it the 2003 hurricane that came ashore at Port O'Connor, but then, this is a largter storm.

I just looked, we have only 100 in the shade on my deck.

We will not have to much trouble with direct wind, but Eugene back in 89 gave us lots of tornados and rain.

City officials just announced the official Houston 2006 Hurricane Evacuation Plan:

Hispanics use I-10 West to San Antonio

Cajuns use I-10 East to Lafayette

Rednecks use 59 North to East Texas

Republicans fly Continental to Washington, DC

Democrats take Amtrak to New Mexico

UT Longhorns use 290 West to Austin

Texas Aggies use Loop 610

You can count on two things:
1. Texas will be better prepared and the crisis management much more effective than Louisiana for Katrina.
2. The democrats will politicize this hurricane as well.

I like both versions: Combine the Aggie's on Loop610 with the democrats going via Amtrak to Galveston.
