I see we share the same taste in music. I hadn't heard of the book about the Carter family. I'm planning a day trip soon to the are where they lived, since I recently moved to the area. I'm currently reading "Still Woman Enough" by Loretta Lynn.

Neal Stephenson's The Cryptonomicion.

He also wrote Zodiak, which was really good.

I'm literally wallowing in C.S. Lewis books this holiday season. After seeing the wonderful Narnia, I raided the library for books by and about Lewis, a terrific writer and possibly the most important Christian apologist of the last century. He's enormously readable, whether he's writing essays, novels, or children's books.

A new biography, "The Narnian" is quite interesting as are two books by David Dowling, "The Reluctant Convert" and "Into the Region of Awe: Mysticism in C.S. Lewis."

How about Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe? A great Story of Survival and very vivid even in its old Style where every Noun is capitalized throughout the Book.

"Bounty" Trilogy: Mutiny on the "Bounty", Men Against the Sea and Pitcairn's Island by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall

I can't tell you how many times I read those as a child. Absolutely wonderful!

I just finished RED LILY, the final book in Nora Roberts IN THE GARDEN series (the others are BLUE DAHLIA and BLACK ROSE). But it's a chick book.

Douglas Preston and Lincoln Childs have a great series, beginning with RELIC, RELIQUARY, STILL LIFE WITH CROWS, CABINET OF CURIOSITIES, BRIMSTONE and DANCE OF DEATH.

Michael Connelly is also great, THE POET, BLOOD WORK and THE NARROWS.

Authors to stay away from: I used to like Patricia Cornwall but she has become unreadable.

I'm on my library's wait list for "Predator," only because I've read she's off that weird, hairy freak kick, and back on track. That was unfortunate...for TWO freakin' books!

Will let you know if she's redeemable.

My Aztlan reconquista novel should be ready in a few months....

You can read the early chapters here, after you finish EFAD.

I'd like to make that trip, myself, down to Maces Springs to the family gravesite up at the church, to pay my respects. But that will be an entire "bluegrass vacation" that's still another year away yet, at least.

I think "The Carter Fold" is there, too - they have music periodically.

Probably worth reading the book before you go, to get a better perspective on what actually happened with the Carters - a very interesting story.
