I'm still waiting to hear some considered reviews of the movie but unless someone tells be something real positive about it, like these guys, I'm going to steer well clear of it. I don't like terrorist sympathizing revisionism - what to me seems to be getting lost in the noise this movie has created, is the fact that it is FICTION.

One of my friends who saw it said it was good but long. Not that he would be particularly attuned to the politcal leanings in a movie. Unless it is as blantant as it was in Syriana.

I just finished the book, Vengence on which the movie is based. Who can really say how much of the book/movie is based on fact versus opinion? At the end of the book the main charcter gets screwed by the Israeli government but he certainly has no regrets about what he did even though he felt that it did nothing to stop terrorism against Israel.

So is it selling better or worse than the Bareback Gayboys movie?

There is an AWESOME movie on DVD that only made it to a small number of theatres.

Great Raid
Bargain flix link page
THE GREAT RAID. Following the 1942 Bataan Death March, thousands of U.S. and Filipino soldiers were imprisoned by the Japanese in a POW camp in Cabantauan in the Philippines. Brutalized, starved, and tortured, the prisoners languished in the camp for nearly three years. But in January 1945, an American battalion, with the help of Filipino guerrillas, planned a daring mission--some called it suicide--to rescue the five hundred U.S. soldiers still alive there. The film is told in glorious detail. The story is based on two books, THE GREAT RAID: RESCUING THE DOOMED GHOSTS OF BATAAN AND CORREGIDOR by William B. Breuer and GHOST SOLDIERS: THE EPIC ACCOUNT OF WORLD WAR II'S GREATEST RESCUE MISSION by Hampton Sides. In addition, several men involved in the raid served as consultants on the project. The result is a thrilling, agonizing, and unforgettable war movie like they used to make in the 1940s and 1950s, a celebration of the human spirit. THE GREAT RAID stars Benjamin Bratt as Lt. Colonel Mucci, an offbeat military man who puts his faith in young Captain Prince (James Franco) to lead the dangerous mission. Among the men imprisoned in the camp are Joseph Fiennes as the ailing Major Gibson and Marton Csokas as Captain Redding, who is always trying to escape. Connie Nielsen adds romantic tension as a war widow smuggling much-needed medicine into the camp.

I thought it was a well done movie, and instilled a great sense of patriotic pride, in this country and its defenders!!!!!

I read where a couple of the Munich widows said that the movie was good. They said that it is a FICTIONALISED account of what happened after the Olympic massacre. They were concerned that people wouldn't know which part was fact and which part was fiction. I am greatly concerned, too. It apparently portrays the Palestinians terrorists in a humane manner. I saw a Spielberg interview and he said that he was pleased with the humanity afforded the assasins of the Israeli team( including one American competing for the Israelis).'The Great Raid' is a terrific movie. Plebe son received it for Christmas and we all can't wait to see it on the widescreen. So rare for any of the movies today to portray the Americans as the good guys.

I don't even see Humpback Mountin' in the top 12. What gives? I thought that was supposed to be the "greates movie of the year" or some such nonsense.

I think I remember Michael Medved talking about that movie. Is it really not rated? What would you rate it if you were the MPAA--for violence, language, etc?

I read somewhere that the only suicide bombing in the film was a jew.

Spielberg should be ashamed

It was less violent than Priv Ryan, and Windtalkers. There might have been some language, I honestly didn't notice.

The big thing with not being rated probably comes from the war atrocities commited, howlweird can mutilate at will, but let it be based on documented actual factual events, and suddenly they're sensitive.
Bottom line was the censorship board wanted to shelve this film, not for being violent or language, but for being PRO AMERICAN!

ABC CBS NBC CNN its all the SAME, Propaganda.
Might as well call them all AmeriJazerra.

'The Great Raid' is a terrific movie.

I have heard great things about that movie and plan on seeing it soon. I will see Munich when it comes out on DVD, but do not regard it as a factual account of what happened.

I don't remember this kind of moral equivocation in "Schindler's List." Spielberg has a very selective outrage.

I like what Stanley Kubrick said about Spielberg -- "Six million Jews died in World War II, and he makes a movie about the 600 who lived."
