Ms. Burlingame is the sister of Captain Charles F. “Chic” Burlingame who piloted American Airlines 77, the plane that was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. In the years since that terrorist attack, she has become one of the most visible and highly respected spokespeople for 9/11 victims’ families and for the effort to prevent more such violence and loss in the future (see her op.ed. in today’s Wall Street Journal).
