A few of us were thinking of starting an on-going FReeper diet and fitness thread. It would be a place where we could discuss weight loss, diet, exercise, getting back in shape, encourage each other in our efforts to get healthy, and celebrate our successes.
Any fitness or activity level. 100+ pounds to lose or no weight to lose. Those who have lost weight and kept it off, please share with us what has worked for you. Maybe you love a certain activity, biking, skiing, rock climbing, walking, running, whatever, tell us about how it helps you stay in shape. Share your weight loss success. Just a place to exchange ideas about all things exercise and diet related.
Don't be shy! As Freepers we spend a whole bunch of time in front of our computers and more then a few of us could do with some exercise and probably a little weight loss.
NO VERBAL ATTACKS! NO NAME CALLING! NO BASHING! THE OVERWEIGHT! NO NASTY PICTURES POSTED! This will be a thread about getting healthy and no attacks will be tolerated.
Heck yeah!!!! I've gained 70 pounds in 8 years, ask me anything!!!!
So far a good response!
Holy CRAP!!!!! Now I am motivated!!!
Hair, go to a Pediatrist and have them make you a set of Orthodics to put in your shoes. That will cure your heel pain. My hubby had his heel spur healed with Orthodics.
I've done the Body-for-Life diet(detailed in a book by Bill Phillips of the same name) for the past 7 months. I have lost 55 pounds and put on a good bit of muscle. The general gist is:
Eat 6 times a day. 1 serving of a good carb and one of a good protein. Eat veggies 2 or 3 times a day. Its okay to supplement meal bars, shakes, etc.
Workout 6 times a week. 3 40 minute weight lifting sessions and 3 20 minute running sessions.
Take one day off a week and indulge yourself.
I've lost 11 lbs eating low fat and healthy and working out 4 times a week, also. It's slow going... I'm 42 and went through menapause (becasue of surgey) and so it's taking a lifetime it seems. It's been 5.5 weeks. I feel GREAT already. I do the elipticle 2 or 3 times a week and have a 1 hour step class 2 times a week. Someday I'll be thin again. I just know it. Put me on your list, I'd love the support.
Thats the best diet motivation ever!!!
My cholesteral dropped 40 points on Atkins.
Yeah, cheese on everything. And real cream in my coffee. Lots of eggs and sausage. I make Taco salads without the Taco. Love it. Atkins is not hard if you enjoy creating new dishes. I find it a challenge to come up with good tasting low-carb dishes, like my favorite dessert, sugar free jello (less water) + cream cheese (whipped) +Cool Whip (blended in). Low carb wraps make a good pizza crust.
Actually, I've done that! Good advice! I went to the Neovita place and got good orthodics. And it does help enormously with pain when I wear them all the time, it's just taking a long time to heal completely and I sin by preferring to be barefoot in the house. Got to get back on the program. I had felt a lot better until the last week when I've overdone it and now flinch too much to even walk much. It's really easy to have a setback.
I dont know if this will help but I got a Giselle. It's a glider. I have a herniated in c5-c6 so I cant use my arms but it really is pretty smooth. It's effective in getting your heart rate up a little and you're in complete control of your speed so it's something that could help you. The other thing that I have is the AB Lounger (are you seeing a patern here) neither of these things jar you or cause you to put stress on your joints. I really pray for you and hope that at least one of these idea helps you. When I first hurt my back I had a doctor tell me that I would be in pain forever and I got so depressed that I laid on the couch for years, I gained 70 lbs and let myself go. I finally began having epidurals and they have me to a point that I can do some aerobic excersize though I hurt at the moment. God Bless you.
That's really interesting.
However, Hagen-Daaz Pistachio ice cream is a powerful force to overcome...
It sure is. Not to pimp Weight Watchers, but they have a program that is similar to Atkins called "Core" that cuts out most processed food and starches, but you get 35 "points" for extra stuff during the week. So, if you want bread or ice cream or something not on the core food list you take it out of the 35 points. That way you aren't depriving yourself.
Please sign me up if you set up a pin list. I will contribute to the thread.
I think this is a very nice idea for discussion, support and tips for people trying to lose weight. However, the rules have been broken already with the two photos on the site now. If this is a serious thread then those photos should be removed. Repost when they are.
Y'all in? I am!
Retro, please put me on this ping list.
Mine too. Lost 40 pounds on Atkins, lowered my cholesterol too. Not too bad a diet to stick to, but needed extra vitamins to not feel like crap, and gained it all back after going off the diet.
Started again last March/April, was down a total of 50, have crept back up about 15, so I need to crack down again. I could stand to lose about 100, and I have 15 months before my wedding to do it!! Must fit in a smaller tux!
