What's a gazelle?
Yes. It is that simple.
I think is only that simple for some people.
I was in fairly good health until three years ago, then lost all ambition to do anything physical. Just now starting to feel like exercising again.
I'd be interested.
Coincidentally, I went shopping last night and started Atkins today (I know - some people don't like it, but it consistently works for me).
In February I started a combined Atkins/exercise regimine. It was working pretty well, I'd lost 10lbs in 3 weeks and gained quite a bit of muscle.
Unfortunately, the transmission in the truck died, and, long story short, I spent two weeks when not at work working on it, didn't exercise, and ate fast food nearly every meal to minimize the time to get it done. Still have some of the muscle, but also gained all the weight back.
I also quit smoking cold turkey today. Been trying the patch for a few weeks, but all that seems to do is prolong the addiction until the day I forget to put it on, then its back to smoking - but that's a subject for a different thread.
Yeah, so far today's been interesting. To say I'm a little grumpy/irritable/irrational (take your pick) is an understatement.
That said, its always good to hear what works for others.
I'm 38, 5'6" and this morning was at 202#. My original goal at the beginning of Feb was to be down to 180# by April 1. I'd settle for 190# - that's probably still a reasonable goal.
I have gotten good results from a motorized treadmill. Dick's Sporting Goods had one on sale in January for around $300. Its an entry-level motorized one, but it allows walking or running. It was great in Feb when we still had snow, but I'll probably use it year-round. Once the snow ends in Cleveland, it'll be raining almost all the time until June. Between the weather and the neighborhood skunks, running/walking outside isn't very attractive.
Add me to the ping list too please. I'm trying to lose some weight too. 10 lbs or so would be ideal. Plus, I'll have some funny pictures to post now and then for sure.... LOL
Lol.
Lawrance: "I believe you can get your a$$ kicked for saying that."
I don't need any more frustration and anger in my life.
Atkins is great. It's just hard for me to stick to. Even now with WW I use a lot of Atkins type ideas in my eating. If I don't get enough protien and too many carbs I just stop losing period.
Would water aerobics be for you? A friend of my sister's found a place near her house that offers it, and she loves it.
I know you will! LOL!!
I'd be interested.
You sound like me. I weighed exactly the same 128 at 5'5" for over 20 years. I got depressed about a few things and went down to 108, which was really not good for me (big bones). I looked like a skeleton. Life evened itself out and I gained the weight back. But then, life took another odd turn and I started gaining weight for the 1st time in my life. Only 10 pounds, but it went directly to my mid-section. I can't take it anymore. I can't wear any of the clothes in my closet until I get back to my normal weight.
You're right, it's not always that easy. I tried every diet and exercise program in existance and gained weight on them, and my Cholesterol kept going up. The Atkins Diet is the only one that has ever worked for me. I'm back on it again since I gained some over the holidays. I'm losing. I do love all that cheese and butter.
I don't, but Mrs. did last year. The best way is to join with a friend, and keep going.
Our city has a gym and offers classes, etc. Probably cheaper than the storefront type.
I too loathe excercise for the sake of exercise, I know I will never commit to a gym or pointless exercising, so I always get out of shape in winter. In summer, I love to mow, work outside on pasture and pruning and burning brush and I can work my horse more, so all that usually keeps me in better shape. This past summer I really did some damage to my feet by mowing and working outside in poorly supporting light summer shoes, and I've had heel pain ever since. That REALLY hurts my chances for getting in better shape and I'm not happy about it at all.
CHEESE!!! It's not just for mice! (I love it, too)
That sounds better. I did the South Beach before a vacation and I dropped about 25 lbs or so. I put back on about 10lbs but i think you need to plataue after a buig weight lose and then you can go back down.
That is what I am telling myself!
Over 35 forum is recommended. Weight lifting is more fun than cardio, and takes less time (about 3 hours a week) - plus you can eat more and still lose fat. Your mass is not what matters - it is your body fat percentage. 4 lbs of fat occupies the same volume as 1 lb of muscle. And, for women, getting that nasty manly look you see on female bodybuilders is nearly impossible. It won't happen naturally (ie they take steroids, etc). And they cover themselves in awful PROTAN too.
If you are making progress towards your goal, don't change anything (sounds like you are doing great - congratulations so far, keep up the good work).
However, for a lot of people their basal metabolic rate (BMR) is too low for diet and cardio to help enough. You can increase your BMR by increasing your lean body mass (muscle burns calories just sitting there, while fat is "inert"). So for anyone who has tried the diet and cardio angle of attack and not obtained results, there are other ways to get fit. Different bodies need to be prodded differently to let go of that extra fat - there is no one size fits all solution.
When my son was looking to put on some weight, he just used the powdered slim-fast but made it with whole milk and some ice cream. That way, it at least had some nutrients in it...
