NASHVILLLE, Tenn., May 22 (UPI) -- It appears the war U.S. country radio stations mounted against the politically outspoken Dixie Chicks has not abated in the least.
The band is promoting "Taking the Long Way," its first album since Natalie Maines told a London audience in 2003 she was ashamed to be from the same state as U.S. President George Bush. The comment sparked a radio boycott of the group's music.
Although the album hits stores Tuesday, the first two singles from the album are not getting widespread airplay, Billboard.com reported Monday.
The first single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," only peaked at No. 36 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and the second single, "Everybody Knows," is moving downward after its peak at No. 48.
WKIS FM in Miami reported it pulled "Not Ready to Make Nice" due to listener complaints after only one week.
The program director at KUBL/KKAT in Salt Lake City told Billboard he was angered by its "self-indulgent and selfish lyrics."
Neither the Chicks or their label, Columbia Records, would speak to Billboard for its article.
Taske out the middle two and substitute...
"Up from the Ashes" - Jessi Colter
"Gospel Album" - Andy Griffith
And you've got what's in mine.

"ABBA - Greatest Hits" - ABBA
Yeah, I know...sigh...

Snort.
Try "politically correct," not politically outspoken. They will get gallons of ink because their position assaults the president. If they agreed with him, the press would run the other way.
Brent Bozell calls them "Musical McCains."
Reba did say something to the effect (after commenting on how worried she was about hosting the award show) "Heck, I don't know what I was so worried about. If the Dixie Chicks can sing with their foot in their mouths, I can certainly host this sucker!" At that point the audience erupted in thunderous applause!
I guess the Dixie Chicks really must HATE their audience. I can't believe they bad mouthed Reba a couple of days before she was scheduled to host one of the biggest events of the year for country music. It's too bad because many people who would otherwise enjoy their music (like me) have it all ruined by the needless insertion of their ignorant opinions.
And this means....
I don't know anyone who will watch or listen to the Dipsy Chimps again. Talented or not...doesn't matter. They screwed their own career(s).
No one says they cannot have their freedom of speech (doubtful in a foreign country slamming the President), but like all lefties in Hollywierd, they end up being regarded by true-blue Americans as a wacko fringe element, and rightfully so. The Dimpsy Chimps have now joined the ever growing element of "entertainers" who are TOTALLY out of touch with mainstream America. When you get out of the mainstream, you lose something about being American in the first place.
They are ridiculous. Open your mouth, say what you want, but don't cry when you are treated like the treasonous pariah that you are.
And, don't forget Dolly Parton's song she wrote for the movie, "Transgender". Course, I guess when one of your sister's is ac/dc and you surround yourself with friends living a gay lifestyle...
I heard Reba sing the female lead in South Pacific on the radio this past Sunday. She was just wonderful. The program narrator is a long time Broadway afficianado and said he thought Reba's portrayl of the lead character was the best he'd ever heard since the original version. I was amazed to listen to her. I knew she had a great range but was delighted to hear this. I'd like to hear/see "Annie get your gun" tool.
Elaine May is also a favorite of mine. High praise from her to jump to her feet for Reba.
Thanks for mentioning this.
Not just venturing into new business....completely burning your bridges with what made you successful in the first place. It would be like Nike telling athletes to screw off and that they're just a bunch of dumb jocks and then trying to manufacture television sets.
It didn't dawn upon their being that country music listeners and rock listeners are not mutually exclusive...especially in the age range they're needing to appeal to since they're a little old and married with children for the teenie bopper crowd.
I've never heard him play one of their songs. Of course, I don't even listen to the dorkwad, so it would be difficult for me to hear him play or say anything.
They didnn't write the song. Nor are they the first to record it. The song was originally recorded by the artist who wrote it, Charlie Robison, and his version sounds much better than theirs.
Thanks Java. I didn't know that, I'll have to look up that song. (I'm a CW newbie)
Ooops, sorry, gave you some bad info there. It was Bruce Robison, not Charlie, who wrote and recorded that song. I get the two brothers mixed up sometimes.
Maybe I'm a little too harsh.
They can be trusted to undermine the US, produce the most culturally rotten films music and art, ruin schools or any institution, etc.
LOL! Never got into ABBA.
They should go on tour with Taylor Hicks...call it the "We Had No Clue Americans Were So Dumb" Tour.
(And yes that was a slap to voters of the horrible Hicks...3rd rate karaoke singer...and a slap to the people who have made the Dixie Chicks popular as well)
WAKE UP AMERICA!
