Monday, 29 May 2006 is the Centenary of the birth of one of the greatest contributors to classic fantasy T H White, author of the infamous The Once and Future King (which includes The Sword in the Stone).

Often considered alongside Tolkein in terms of his influence, T H White's impact on contemporary literature and portrayals of Arthurian legend is vast, and his appeal is at all times universal. White's work became even more popular in 1963 when Disney used the book as the basis for the film The Sword in the Stone, and then again, when it was adapted in to the musical Camelot.

Written during and after the Second World War, The Once and Future King can also been seen as political commentary, as White gave infused Malory's Arthurian tales with new meaning in a world dominated and destroyed by war.

Not the headline of the source but I didn't want this post to seem like an ad for their contest.

Why is the book considered "infamous"?

Don't remember if I ever read the book, but I saw the movie as a youngin'. His fantasy tales ring true to many things...
