Bucs QB Chris Simms was admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition because of injuries suffered in today's loss to the Carolina Panthers. The nature of his injuries has not yet been disclosed.
Simms briefly left the game in the third quarter to take treatment for deyhdration. He returned and and helped the Bucs rally from a 17-point deficit, though they ultimately lost, 26-24.
After the game, Simms was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph's, which is near Raymond James Stadium.
Coach Jon Gruden acknowledged in his post-game press conference that Simms was sore but didn't seem to know he had been transported.

Peter King on NBC's pre-game show reported that Buc's GM (or owner?, can't recall) told him that Simms is not in critical condition. King said he couldn't get more info from Bucs because the team was still trying to notify Simms' family.

From the article I would guess heat stroke. Prayers for him regardless.
After the Korey Stringer tragedy I would find that hard to believe, especially during a game.
dang, hopefully he recovers quickly. I'm hearing on Sunday Night Football now that it was erroneous that he is in critical condition, but he is in the hospital.

ESPN just broke into the baseball game to report that Simms suffered a ruptured spleen during the game.
Tough kid -- returning to the game with a ruptured spleen. I hope he has a full recovery.

Chris Simms Simms According to a source close to Simms' family, the quarterback's condition has been stabilized after surgery, during which he received blood transfusions. It is thought the injury occurred in the second quarter. Simms took several hard hits and left the game for two plays in the second half but returned to help the Bucs take the lead in the fourth quarter. Simms also has bruised ribs. He is being treated at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Ruptured spleen removed. My cousin suffered a ruptured spleen in HS football practice; got home & passed out on the sofa. Internal bleeding was the biggest problem.
