actually , they have handled this in a Biblical manner. Satan means this to be destructive, but God will win out. He always does. Sin, is sin ,is sin....whether in the church or not. The church cannot tolerate sin, but it must ALWAYS love the sinner. My prayer is that his family will now come along side him, that he will have a attitude of repentance, and find healing that only God can give. David, the Shepherd Boy repented, and God brought healing. However the consequences of that sin never left David....

Exactly. So often with a popular "famous" pastor, people really are reluctant to discipline.
Also tells me the proof must be pretty overwhelming and ugly.

Satan is what brings it on. He is especially happy to get those in a position of trust over the faithful. And he pursues them with a vengeance. That in no way excuses them, they should be more aware than most of the danger.

Which is why I never give money to televangelists. I'd rather see my money go to a local church or charity. I just don't put a lot of trust in wealthy TV preachers. Greed gets to them.

Thats what happens when anybody can put up a sign and declare themselves a "Pastor"
Most of these big guys are crazy crooks in it for the money, their "flock" are a few slices short of a full loaf themselves.

Unfortunately this was beyond the Matt. 18:15-17 stage and went public.
That is not what Matthew 18 is about. They followed the injuction regarding elders quite correctly. A public rebuke is mandatory.
1Ti 5:19-20 Don't receive an accusation against an elder, except at the word of two or three witnesses. Those who sin, reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.

I need enlightening and have determined that you should be the enlightener.
Towards that end, will you tell me what behavior to expect from those pro-evolution non-idiots who try to "smarten up" our schools?

I really don't think the bank will have a thing to worry about unless the church is full of meth breathing homosexuals. The elders did exactly the right thing. Now it remains to find a Godly pastor to lead them.

What's it matter if its "heinous" or not?
I'm a little disturbed by the over-focus on the homosexual aspect.
Seems he committed adultery, solicited and purchased illegal drugs, apparently hired a prostitute. All the stories care about is the gender-aspect.
Why not emphasize these moral failings with equal vigor?
Nope, it's all been about homosexuals which will cause the point and scope of the behavior to be lost and dismissed by too many while the Left notch another "hypocrisy" sacking.

Yes, and as you could expect from that type of person, one of those anti-evolution idiots trying to dumb down our schools
Haggard was a creationist? Another reason to dislike him...

"They did the right thing. I'm struck by how compassionate yet firm they seem to be."
I agree. They CANNOT, nor would they want to, leave him in a position of leadership after his sin and utter hypocrisy have been exposed. The whole country is watching. But they won't really shun him either because at the end of the day, we Christians know that we are ALL sinners and in need of daily forgiveness. They care enough about him and about his repairing his relationship with God and his own family that they won't abandon him. We all know how easy it is to get caught up in sin, whether it's the little things no one ever finds out about or the bombshells that rock the entire country. If his church is truly made up of God's people, as I suspect it is, they will want nothing more than to see Reverend Haggard get back on the narrow path with Him. They will be there to help with the healing. I feel so sorry for ALL of the people involved. I hate that this has made Satan's day. And it deeply saddens God. Of course, He doesn't want or need someone deliberately and repeatedly sinning from the safe cover of the pulpit. That is blasphemous. God has known what the pastor was up to all along; maybe the timing of this revelation was exactly according His purposes. He will not be mocked.
Sorry, waaaay off your topic. Prayers for the reverend, his family, the church/communtiy, and the impact the Democrats will hope this has on the election.
