Florida's national title chances rely on voters
ESPN ^ | Dec. 03, 2006 | Mark Schlabach

ATLANTA -- Michigan had its chance against Ohio State and lost. Southern California couldn't even beat its struggling rival on Saturday, so the Trojans won't get an opportunity to play the No. 1 Buckeyes more than a month from now.

Florida is next in line, and after beating Arkansas 38-28 in Saturday night's SEC championship game at the Georgia Dome, the Gators deserve the opportunity to play Ohio State in the Jan. 8 BCS title game in Glendale, Ariz.

Florida finished 12-1 against one of the country's toughest schedules, won its first SEC title since 2000 and lost one game in a conference that is still regarded the sport's toughest from top to bottom.

"We certainly do," Florida coach Urban Meyer said when asked Saturday night whether he believes the Gators should get a chance to play Ohio State. "Florida belongs. The other team had a shot. We went 12-1, and I think the country wants to see the Southeastern Conference champion against the Big 10 champion. I think that's what this is all about."

But because of college football's inept system of determining which two teams will play for the national championship, voters around the country will decide Sunday whether the Gators or Wolverines will play the Buckeyes in the Arizona desert.

Look at all of the revenue that Los Angeles would loose is LSU didn't go

Oh please. The best "traveling" fans are, in no particular order, are Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska and Notre Dame. I think a Pac-10/Big 10 match-up breeds more interest in the Rose Bowl. The Phoenix area is the real loser with Florida getting the nod.

Really Michigan oh their boards were concerned last week how they would travel compared to LSU.

I am holding out some hope because it seems in both fans LSU as to the Sugar and Michigan to the Rose that there is a sense of good gosh been there done that too many times.

The LSU/USC would be compelling because of the storylines relating to 2003 , the Booty connection, and even on some level the Evangel High School Connection on both teams. The key would be getting something similar for Michigan.

The best traveling teams are all up north teams?? Have you by any chance heard of the fans from the SEC?

Of course any reason to leave from up there in January would be nice I guess.

Its official that Nebraska plays Auburn in the Cotton Bowl. We are 3-0 against the war eagle, I hope it is 4-0 after Jan 1.

Poor Texas fell all the way down to the Alamo Bowl.

No what is right is right. What was done to Michigan was wrong, and you know it. We are supposed to play the best vs the best , not the biggest cry babies. Do you know anything about how Fl cheats their way into anything and what a history they have. Can you say crooked , I can!

I think Florida will get the nod. But I also think the Wolverines are a better overall team than the Gators.

It will come down to the human polls that make up the BCS. Most of the country doesn't want a UM - OSU rematch.

I believe that OSU will defeat either Florida or Michigan in the title game, regardless of which team is picked. But I think an OSU - UM rematch would be a closer game. I would pick the Buckeyes over the Gators by two TDs, easy.

betsyross: You appear to be at odds on every thread you post on. If everyone annoys you so much, why bother?

The only person I've known that enjoys anger, was my aunt,
and she was the only lib in the family. Just an observation.

You are correct, what is right is right. Michigan had their shot and they were not good enough, so what is right is for someone else to have thier shot.

Believe me, the last team I want to see playing for the national Championship is Florida. I am a Georgia fan, and I root for two teams, Georgia and whoever is playing the Gaytors. But, what is fair is fair. Michigan was not good enought to win thier own conference, and they were not good enough to beat Ohio State.

Is Florida good enough to beat Ohio State? I highly doubt it. My prediction is Ohio State 38 Florida 24. I think almost every person on here other than the most rabid Florida fan will admit that. So, trust me on this one, there will be no one here for you to "rub their faces in it" when Ohio State wins, because everyone expects them to win.

OH yeah, one last thing. Is that you Mrs Crabapple? YOu have been correcting my spelling and grammer for over 40 years woman, it's time to give that up too.

Michigan beat five teams that finished the season with losing records.

This, because of structure, is silly. There'd have been more if OSU and Wisconsin had mediocre teams. IF OSU had lost to Minnesota, Iowa, and Indiana, would that really have made Michigan a stronger team? By that argument it does. That the total wins and losses of opponents are so close shows how ridiculous this argument turns out to be.
