Florida has one big weakness, and that is Chris Leak (despite his numbers).

Florida's surprising big strength is its special teams. If special teams are clicking, it could make for a very interesting national championship game.

They should just cut back on the number of bowl games since I really get tired of watching bad football games at the end of December.

Yes, I thought so as well. But my question is, what if there weren't enough teams to go around? As I say, it almost happened a few years ago, and there's an additional one or two bowls since then.

Maybe they might cancel the game? Nah...

Nope, the one and only exception I know of is if you win an automatic bid through your conference championship.

Florida has not been all that impressive. I guess it is better to be lucky than good.

Nothing lucky about it. The Gators have gritted out wins with solid defensive stuffs up front and absolutely inspired special teams efforts.

If anything the Gators were stung by bad luck, especially in the loss to Auburn.

The offense has played just well enough to tip the score to the Gators' advantage.

Until the NCAA comes up with a #1 vs. #4 and #2 vs. #3, with the winner of each playing for the title, this will not be settled.

Still won't - #5 will be screaming over being left out.

If there werent enough teams then there would be lots of really good teams that year. Usually there are more than enough bowl-eligible teams, the Big 12 for instance will have Kansas sitting home. The reason being is that 6-6 is only bowl eligible. If there wasnt enough teams overall even with the 6-6 teams then I imagine they would still go by bowl alliances and selection order, IE if the No 8 team from the Big 12 is 5-7 then he would still get the nod because he is the No 8 pick in the league and there are no other available teams.

If you read further, after it states that the rate for Florida is 80% it states:

The NCAA's figure for Florida nearly doubled the 42 percent rate from the federal report.

Having dealt with Florida graduates as an instructor at the U.S. Army Field Artillery School, I would tend to believe the lower rate. The only thing dumber than a 2nd Lieutenant from a Florida school was one from a school in Texas. And unfortunately I am serious about that comment. We would sit around before a course started to see who was stuck with officers from those two states.

I think Florida has a chance, the emergence of Percy Harvin

Harvin seems to be finding his groove late in the season. I would love to see him bust one for 60 yards against the Buckeyes.

That must have been one heck of a win-loss list for that North Texas team - no out of conference wins.

My dream scenario is this
ND/WF Orange
UM/Louisville Sugar
OU/ Boise St Fiesta
LSU / USC Rose

That would actually make some sense if the Bowls agree to it. Especially sending ND to the the Orange to help with any trouble Wake MIGHT have on bringing the numbers

Nothing lucky about it.

I really don't think Florida wins yesterday without that bonehead play of trying to field a punt over his shoulder with five defenders bearing down on him. That turned the game around. And blocking FG and extra point to win a game. Those are luck. Blocking an extra point is like a 1 in 100 shot.

LSU-USC would be a terrific Rose Bowl matchup.

LSU's defense is fierce.

LOL...That would probably be the Univ. of North Texas, my husband's alma mater.

They can manage to be the best of the worst teams some years..and play a bowl game...sigh

However, I have to go with OSU in the NC game. Florida has one big weakness, and that is Chris Leak (despite his numbers). The weakness, Leak gets extremely happy feet when pressured. The key to beating Florida is to hit Leak early and often. Once he feels that pressure, he rushes throws and forces throws. Every game Florida has lost over the past 3 seasons can be traced directly to pressure on leak.

I'll say this though: it could end up being another repeat of Miami-Nebraska some years ago or USC-Oklahoma a few years ago if Chirs Leak doesn't quickly figure out how to thrive in a strong pass rush. Ohio State will end up beating Florida like a drum if Leak is forced to run.

The chances of LSU going to the Rose Bowl over Michigan is roughly zero.

Problem with that is, I believe the Sugar's tie-in with the SEC means they have to take Florida or LSU, whichever one is available.

Wow. This is an awful lot of people getting worked up about minor league football.

Yes, I have the same opinion about college basketball. At least baseball has the decency to provide its own training system for players who are not ready for the big show.

Urban Meyer has developed a world-class pout. It will entertaining to watch his team get absolutely buried by the OSU juggernaut.
