I'm reading Jeter's book and got a jersey for my Bday. But I think I told you about the jersey already, and may have even included a graphic from Dick's Sporting Goods if my memory serves me right..... See, not getting that old yet. LOL!
I've also been enjoying reading Elizabeth Kantor's The Politically Incorrect Guide to English and American Literature, a Christmas gift and an excellent consideration and analysis of the best Western literature that, unfortunately, is NOT being taught in our schools/colleges...and that's the premise of the book.
(One consolation to being my age is that I DID have teachers who taught the classics. Kantor's book gives new insights into them, and I am enjoying this bonus.)
There has to be some place to get clothes that don't look like retro seventies!
It was pretty amazing, because the questions were about things which I thought were common knowledge.
I don['t understand the desire to ignore such great contributions to Western civilization in favor of pop authors who will be forgotten in 20 years.
People here have asked me what JT is doing now. My stock answer is that he shoots people and breaks things.
I cannot believe that this Anna Nichole Smith hearing is being carried live, and I cannot believe that the judge and the attorneys sound like such unprofessional IMBECILES.
That is absolutely crazy and explains a whole lot why the sheeple vote the way they do. Shallow, shallow, shallow.
I read only the article announcing her death. And then, I've avoided it all. Shoot, I read more about Barbaro than her.
Thank you .. great pix... He no doubt prefers the tank/gun.. but I LOVE THE sunset/rise silhouette
thanks for the ping to these
how is the hand
The hand is improving, BUT I can't put weight on the wrist, like picking up a pillow, or a drink, or a plate, without pain. So, the doc is sending me back to the hospital for another x-ray. She said that sometimes green stick fractures don't show up immediately. There is still some swelling in the area, too.
I was shocked to learn in one of my English 12 classes that before I could teach Milton's sonnets that I first had to explain his Biblical references, the Biblical parables, and metaphors.
Cavalier poetry was a breeze for them, however! Raging hormones stimulated their spirited discussions about female beauty being short lived ("Gather ye rosebuds...") Lol
The year before I retired the NC School Board was requiring that English teachers get on board teaching literature from "diverse" sources.....had nothing but mimeographed copies of the stories, which in my opinion had nothing of literary merit to recommend them but that their authors were from obscure African and Mideastern countries.
While I am all for broadening students' minds, I do think that they first should be exposed to their own culture and literature before venturing into the one worldism seeping into our schools.
'Guess I'm just a dinosaur.
He did post the sunset pic first, but I think you're right. At first I wasn't sure who that silhouette was for sure, but then I noticed the nose. It is JT.
BTW...what is a green-stick fracture?
It is a fracture where the bone doesn't really break but sort of bends and has some splits in it. It's name is from what happens to a stick which was still growing when taken off a tree. The stick doesn't break with a clean snap but has some splits through it.
FWIW, I plan to ride my motorcycle to the hospital! LOL!
I need to get ready for chapel and other things. It is now approaching 6AM here. BBL
Oh my. What great pics. Thank you.
A handsome nose it is, too.
At 1506 hrs it's a blistering 39 degrees.
If you find such a place, let me know. I finally found a simple A-line dress with matching full length jacket for aster Sunday, but when I asked the salespeople about A-line dresses, it was like I was talking Greek.
Even my husband, who has zero fashion sense, looked around one store and said the colors and styles were the ugliest he'd ever seen.
I'm so glad I sew. I've just joined a sewimg group, what a group of talented people. Of course, I haven't done anything in the group, yet, but as soon as I can, I'll whip something up.
To the winning imbecile goes $94 Mil. I was sipping my firt cup coffee when they were talking about the body being held in FL until.......when one of the reporters said something like, "while the body is laying there it's decaying". I just to laugh over that. Macabre sense of humor before the second cup.
Well here's another dinosaur. My boys are always surprised when they borrow one of our history or "old" reading books, how history was taught in our "age" compared to theirs and how English usage was used then and how clean our stories were compared to books today.
Very nice picture of JT, and you are right, that's what he does.
When I was in grad school, one of my favorite professors confided to me that he was having "a God awful time" of choosing novels for his British novel course and could only depend on the 19th century and early 20th century novels, which were more circumspect (i.e.not vulgar) and would not get him into trouble. LOL
Love the pics! I hope JT gets to break lots of things and shoot lots of bad guys!
Love the pics of JT.
And I hope the wrist straightens up soon.
Nice to see you here this evening, Sweetie. I hope you're feeling stronger these days. I miss so many posts during the week, I never know for sure what I've missed.
Please know that you, Herb & the rest of your family continue in our prayers.
Thank you for sharing those awesome pictures. And please thank him for his service, tell him we support him and all our fabulous Military! Good job!
Thanks, sweetie! Daughter-child and family are coming in this weekend so we'll have a houseful.
Off to watch tv with hubby for a while now.
Finding clothes is a nightmare. The styles and fabrics are awful.
Have found some decent sweaters and shirts at Monteray Bay. Need to check their sizing closely though as they fit bigger. (Mediums are too big and that is what I usually wear).
Sometimes Spiegel will have dresses that work.
I get that Monteray Bay catalog but haven't bought anything from them; thanks for the tips. I love the clothes I see there but wasn't sure about the quality.
Quality seems to be pretty good in the sweaters and shirts, better than the mall stuff. And, a smaller size is always nice. :-)
I don't know when this began, but I can remember the 60s when my girlfriend and her husband were upset their girls were not being taught art, literature etc, as we had been taught. Even home ec was about instant foods and not basic food planing etc, my area of interest. I Know I was a nurse, but my interest was and is homopathy and food. I don't think they teach music either, unless one is in a band..we were taught music appeciation.
If there are misspellings, blame it on my broken wrist. I'm typing, for the first time, with both hands. It's amazing which fingers are weak.
One other thing....their catalog is very nicely done...be sure and look at the same item online first....sometimes you can see a noticeble difference.
I'm glad to hear that about the quality, Rheo. And that's good advice about looking at them online.
I shared an extra catalog with a woman at church and I'll ask her if she's ordered anything from them yet. They really do put outfits together nicely, casual but stylish.
GREAT job on the threads today, Peach!!!
Thanks so much!
I just left a few good articles on a thread JR has going.
I'm not giving a big dinner party like Peach is, but I do have company coming tomorrow night and Sunday, so I've been cleaning, planning multiple meals, and grocery shopping.
I'm pooped and have decided to just let some things go until tomorrow. I may even bake a cherry cheese cake for dessert.
Right now, though, I have a very good book that is beckoning me. How's that for making excuses to keep from doing more housework? LOL
I noticed. :0)
Link for our convenience? Thank you, Dear Peach!
I told everybody that the cops should have exited the donut shops and arrested all of those people for impersonating a snow plow driver!
Hi, Two Thirds.
Because I like Rudy, there is a pretty vocal group on FR who is wanting me banned. So if for some reason that happens, I just want you to know that I've enjoyed talking with you through the years. I doubt it will happen, but a lot of others aren't so sure. LOL
Anyway, here's the thread:
It's a good thing we have company; it forces us to clean! LOL
Till - hope you're on the mend and heal quickly; I'm so sorry to hear about your broken wrist.
you seem to always be considerate & thoughtful in your responses.
Even if people disagree, if they do so with respect they should not be banned IMHO.
The idiots that join, trash all in US including our president, the values we hold dear, resort to name calling, & obviously have a socialistic agenda are the ones I cheer when shown the door.
I think Jim respects you for a lot of reasons. One learns on these threads..Lord knows I do.
When someone confronts you or disagrees with you the options are to fight blindly or to restudy & come back either changed or comfirmed in your mindset.
I dont think you are too closed minded to change but I think you are well read enough to NOT be thrown for a loop with data (true data that is) presented
WHAT THE @%&@*^^%???? Are these people willing to vote for the witch or the smoooooooth superstar-rockstar-midnightbasketball-cokehead if Rudy makes it on the ballot?????
The link didn't work BTW.
What Dolly said.....and....You better not ever be banned, Peach!
You add so many good things to FR. Your research is impeccable.
Link didn't work, but I hit your name and then went to "In Forum" and found your statements and responses.
Good morning, everyone!
Good morning, L!
Just read in the WSJ that both State Farm and Alstate have left Mississippi for good
