Please DO NOT read this thread if you have not seen the movie. Even if you have read this book, topics under discussion can affect what you will expect in the last book.
Several pet theories for the Deathy Hallows have, perhaps, been laid to rest by the release of this movie. A number of plot points I had thought were important to the end of the series were completely left out of Order of the Phoenix.
1. There is absolutely NO reference to the cleaning of Grimmauld Place. Thus, any speculation about the locket horcrux being hoarded by Kreacher must be false.
2. The prophecy was never heard in full. The portion of the prophecy which could have referred to Neville instead of Harry was omitted.
3. There was no mention of Percy's estrangement from his family. Percy was shown at Fudge's side at important points, but unless his face was remembered from previous movies, people not reading the book may not have caught that.
There were two plot changes which puzzled me. Cho was the one who gave Dumbledore's Army away, not the unimportant character of Marietta. Also, Sirius, before he falls through the veil calls Harry, "James". I assume these changes have a point, but I don't know what.
There was also no reference to Hermione and Ron being Prefects. There was no Quidditch at all, so Ron would not be on the team.
Yeah, and riding the Thestrals to the MoM is sort of out of the blue. If I hadn't read the book I'd be lost there.
Other than that you note the same things that jarred for me.
OTOH, Umbridge was very good, I would have had her just a hair more cloyingly sweet, and Luna was darn near perfect.
and was it just me or did Harry's glasses lack lenses in about half the scenes?

I was surprised that Umbridge asked for students to volunteer to be members of the Inquisitorial Squad.
Didn't see enough of them in action to make it worth shoving Montague into the cabinet.
There are going to be far more nuances and outright clues in the books than in the movies, or the movies would run to ten hours apiece.
The whole thing really should have been done as a TV series, at the rate of 2-3 years per season there would have been enough time to do it justice.
And still madrassas are springing up all over the world...

There was an FR thread about it, turns out it was written during the clinton administration, but published early in the Bush administration...

This was the primary reason for my thread. Either the last two movies will be a complete mess in terms of storyline OR fans are way, way off base in predicting important plot lines.
JK Rowling has said that Harry having Lily's eyes is important but that has also been fairly well ignored in the movie.
The people involved in the movies are mostly hopeless liberals, but I had to smile at the giant “W” toward the end of the movie.

The best I can say now is that my impression at the time was that he was talking to Harry. It wasn't a random shout out of "James". I believe Sirius and Harry wre talking.

Likely the locket will be introduced later, if it is important to the outcome of the series. I'm just now re-reading "Half Blood Prince", in anticipation of the new book, so I'll be paying closer attention to the whole horcrux thing.
I thought it was interesting that they went through the entire year and never even mentioned Quidditch ONCE! I enjoyed the movie, though I thought it started off rather slow. I loved Imelda Staunton as Umbridge; she displayed suitable creepy-sweetness, which morphed into downright meanness! I'm glad they brought in the centaurs later in the movie, and had them carry her off, even if they didn't follow up on the whole 'Firenze as Divination teacher' plot line.
That by far was one of the best scenes of the book, I also liked the scene where Umbridge and Ron are both in the medical wing of school and he does the clipclopping sound and she becomes startled. That was cute. :)
