FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Here's one more pic. We got a lady at the break area to take one of all 3 of us...

Good pic! I see it’s finally become jacket weather for you guys...:)

Man, it’s pouring here, the last few days. I mean...I know it always does this, but geeze, it’s an adjustment.

Yeah, we've had a couple of days of upper 20's at night, but normally it's in the 40's, with upper 60's during the day. This week has been a little warm though and gotten up into the mid-70's. You need a light jacket in the morning but are burning up in it by lunchtime. I hate to hear about your rain. I could take living someplace really cold before I could take living in a really rainy place. Not seeing the sun depresses me.

Great shot of you guys. How nice you all get to ride together. I would have loved to be with you all. The leaves are so pretty too.

The weather has been very nice here also. Low 70's today! Good day to get a wax job on my truck, which I did after I voted. I went early afternoon and didnt have to wait at all.

Amy bought a new horse for Alison. If you all remember the QH gelding "Chaser" that was here for a few months last summer. The boy who owned him (Dakota) lost interest in showing. At least we know what the horse is like. Hes a really nice horse.

Thanks. We really are fortunate to have found good friendship, common interests, and great places to ride not too far from home. Some pretty good horses, too. Goose sounds like he’s found Hawg Heaven for horses. He may earn his keep, but they sound like they take good care of their horses.

Hope the new QH does great for Alison. He’s got alot to live up to.

I miss talking and lurking with y’all. We’d be proud for you to come ride anytime. We had 70’s today, beautiful and hope to have a good day to ride Sat.

Hal & I rode the 19 mo. old TWH Star Sunday in the round pen. She did great and never did a thing. Hope she will be as good as Sassy. She won’t be as big, so maybe I can get on her w/o a log!

Sorry it’s so wet and gray where you are. We are supposed to get some by the end of the week. We need it, but hopefully not on Sat.

Glad you got a good report on Bay from the vet.

I have been to the vet more than I ever care to again with the Yorkie that Star stomped. He had to spend the day there again and he called before lunch and told me the surgery didn’t work and he would have to do a cast around his body (he weighs 4.5 #’s) or have to open it back up. I was upset. Then when I got there to get him he just put a shorter splint on it and said after he relaxed a while it looked better and thought it was still in place afterall. Talk about an emotional roller-coaster! He was standing on his hind legs putting his good front foot on my chest and licking me in the face and trying to get away from that vet. He wanted to go home! Go back in a week to see what he says then.

I also have had to bury my Tallulah (or Hal did; I couldn’t stand it) and he surprised me with another heeler. I told him I didn’t want another one, but now am the mama of a 6 wk. old one. Plus, am trying to wean my colt by swapping them out in a stall twice a day. I’ll be glad when things settle back down. At least Hal stopped passing kidney stones.

That sounds promising about Star, but I wouldn’t be riding her all that much as young as she is. I know Larry does it, but I still think that’s too early, especially as small as she is. I’d wait another 6 months anyways.

I hate to hear that poor little Prowler has had more problems! Doesn’t seem like he’s EVER going to get out of that cast! But at least he didn’t have to re-operate this time. Maybe this last cast will do the trick.

I’m looking forward to seeing the new pup. I’ll bet he’s cute as a button. I know you still miss Tallulah terribly, but I think it’s good that you’ve got the new little squirt to keep your mind off of it.

There’s not much you can do when they take to heeling car tires. Sooner or later one of them’s going to get them. I just hate it that it had to be you. I know it about killed you, but at least she never knew what hit her.

Still in one piece:) Lots of rain, thunder, lightening, and wind, but no tornados.
The sun is shining today, but it’s a bit cooler now.

Glad to hear that it didn’t amount to anything!

I think we’re supposed to get that front this evening and tomorrow morning, but they’re not predicting anything severe thank goodness.

We’ve got another ride planned for Saturday so I hope it clears up by then. The leaves are just now reaching their peak. Hopefully the rain won’t knock them all off before Saturday.

I’ve been having a good giggle about the reactions of some of the folks over at Baywind about Obama’s victory. I mean, MY GOSH, I’m as bummed about it as the next guy, some of them need to get a grip! The country is not going to get sucked into a black hole tomorrow just because Obama won! I’m not going to slit my wrists or move to Canada, or Austrailia or anywhere else because of it, and I’m SURE not ashamed to be an American because of some of the things being said there. There are bigots EVERYWHERE. It’s not a uniquely American thing. It’s hysterical!

And then you’ve got the ones like Rum’s Mom and Equine Woman who are Yellow Dog Democrats and act like the last 8 years have been Hell on Earth and they were reduced to eating dirt and groveling. It’s just plain comical!

I think it’s interesting to get to open the debate to that wide range of people. You don’t get that here, certainly, and while I know many liberals at work, I don’t argue with them, not freely.

You really ought to watch that south park from last night. You can watch the episode online at my link over there.

It’s not even all that vulgar, by South Park standards. And those guys do know people. They portrayed both of those sides and their reactions perfectly. And they got it done a day.

So how is everybody?

Duchess, have any more of your horses gone to new homes yet? I haven’t seen you on here or over at Baywind either. Everything ok with you and Bob?

MT, how’s things up your way? Has Alison been out on the new horse yet? You getting any snow yet?

Becky, It looked like y’all were getting some pretty good rain yesterday. Has the freeze gotten your morning glories yet?

HaveFaith, BladeRider and I went on a good trail ride this past Saturday at a place called Laurel Hill Wildlife Management Area, near Lawrenceburg, TN. They’ve got a pretty good-sized lake there and the trails wind around through the hills and hollers surrounding it. The weather was great and the leaves were gorgeous. I’ve got pictures but I can’t upload to Photobucket from work any more so I’ll have to post them later.

We’d never been there before so we went with a big group of mostly non-gaiteds, just to scope out the trails. It was slow, but still fun. They have a website with a good trail map, plus I took my GPS and mapped the whole trail, so we’ll have to go back again sometime where we can move at our own pace, stop and take pictures and investigate stuff. It’s only about an hour and a half drive for us, so it’s definitely do-able.

Fine here... :) Wet, but fine.

We’ve had a few dry days since the last deluge, but it’s expected to be heavy today and for the next couple days, we have one of those firehoses aimed at us again... and the first high wind warnings have been issued, not for right here, exactly, but on the coast and east slopes of the Cascades.

The rivers might flood because it’s still too warm for any of this to fall as snow in the mountains, it’ll all run back down the hills.

The rain part we can handle, I’ll be out making sure my drainages are flowing :)

I’d seen some of Sedona’s pictures of her flooding pastures, so it doesn’t look fun. But at least now you have your trailer hidey-hole to hang out in during the wind storms. We’ll need a full report (with pics of course) on how the first usage works out.

We’re supposed to get rain starting this evening through the rest of the week, but we need it still, so that’s ok. I think the weekend will be dry but colder, so we’ll have to see how the riding plans go.
