How did the check up on Bay go?
But overall, pretty good. :)
Full update here: Bay's Checkup with the vet this afternoon... - Page 3
Oh - scroll down to the update...
So, it looks like there is nothing to really worry about. He sure does look good for an older horse. You take great care of him and it shows.
You have a lot of activity on your new forum and thats cool. Should we just forget about this one then?
I don’t want to forget about it, but my attention to it has sure suffered! It’ll always be a standby though, yeah - the new place is pretty busy!
Thanks on Bay, I try... he’s getting all fuzzy and I always think that makes him look older.
The girl did take Goose yesteday. I met her and her husband and 14 year old son at the rails-to-trails so they could take him on a test ride. They brought her husband's horse and her son's horse and I took Bob. They tacked him up with her saddle, including a crupper (which he'd never experienced before) and he did great. He acted like he'd worn one his whole life. I rode him first, up and back a bit, then her son rode him, then she rode him. He was barefoot at that point and I wanted her to see that he'd gait that way. Then I put the boots on his fronts for the rest of the ride since it was gravel.
We rode the north end of the trail, which is 5 miles, and back. She rode him up and her husband rode him back, so they both got to see how he rode and how he looked when somebody else was riding him. We met a hiker, some dogs and a 4-wheeler along the way and he never even flinched, so I was real proud of him. Her only concern about him had always been his height, since she's real short, but after they rode him it wasn't a question of IF they were going to buy him, it was WHO was going to get to ride him. I think it's going to be a fight between the three of them. They're even planning on showing him this coming Saturday at a countryboy show, and I think that's great. They were a real nice family that loves horses and Goose deserves a home like that.
Forgot to ping y’all to the previous post...
Jeffrey riding Goose...
At our lunch break under the bridge...
Jeffrey on Goose(L) and Audra on Flip(R), practicing their "Toilet Paper Race" skills. I'd never heard of it, but apparently they give you a strip of like 4 sheets of toilet paper to hold between you and you race. Sounds like fun!
Sounds good with Goose. He sounds like a real good horse, like all yours are. Even if I felt like I never knew him as well.
I hope if he goes to the show you can go watch and take pictures. :)
Yeah, I need to find out where the show is. She’s supposed to take me some pictures and video anyways, but it’d be nice to go. I’ll bet he does real good.
Yes! Is he tall too? Taller than your others? Because you mentioned her being worried about his height.
He’s only 14.3 at the top of the withers now, so I don’t think he’ll ever be all that much bigger. He may top out at 15 hands. I know Bob, Hope and Grace are all 15 hands. I measured everybody the other day with Kari’s measuring stick with the level in the crossbar. This girl (Audra) is just small, and she’s had trouble getting on her current horse because he won’t stand still, so that’s why she was concerned. She didn’t have that problem with Goose.
Surprising they allow ATV's on your Rail-Trail. Ours are paved, so that may be the reason why, they dont allow them here.
There is a nice solid colored Appaloosa mare in Wisconsin, I would like to see. It is quite a trip and with Winter coming on, I just might wait for Spring to go "shopping".
Speaking of Winter, it is snowing today! Suppose to go back up to the high 50's tomorrow for Trick or Treat.
Friday morning is when my friend Judy's weanling will show. Stump races are first and the show starts at 7:30 Am. Might be a little too early for you.
Well, they really don't allow motorized vehicles on that trail either, but he wasn't actually riding along the trail, just crossing it so I guess he was ok.
And yeah, with no more riding than you can do during the winter up there, I'd probably wait until Spring to go horse shopping too.
Great pictures, everyone!
Where is that covered bridge?
The covered bridge is at the Rails-to-Trails in Elkmont, AL.
Little Miss Whirl with her half brother Blade. They definitely look alike to me!...
BladeRider on Blade and HaveFaith on Sassy, enjoying the fall foliage. And yes, it really was that yellow right there and not just bad camera color...
And I've gotten a couple of updates from the girl who bought Goose. They showed him this past Saturday night and here's what she had to say about that...
goose won....1.. 2nd,1.. 3rd, 2.. 4th, 1.. 5th..red won.... 2..4th...doc(my red roan),won 2..2nd, 1..4th-------goose done really well. he was scared of his shawdow bad during warm ups though. we were scared he would blow up when they turned on the music but he held it together great.we were showing against seasoned big time show horses all dolled up. some with banded lite shoes and glittery show clothes, which shouldnt be allowed but politics lets them in. jeffrey showed goose in all the solid color trail classes and speed racking. he got 2nd in speed racking out of 4 horses. the winner gait broke into a run but was considerably faster than goose. that horse belongs to my boss..lol. she lives for that class every year.goose actually looked better but she pretty much almost lapped him,but for a colt he is very fast. the other horse is 8 i think, and shown lots in that class. i think we might get it next time. we got lots of compliments on him.he is trying to run his nose out though. everybody kept saying if we could get his nose out of the air he would be awesome. we put a bump port with 4 inch shank. i think he may need longer shank to pull it down. trying to get him to look like he did with you last sunday.we gonna ride about 10-15 miles today . i will take more pics then. my camera takes horrible pics at the show ring cause the lights. they all blurred!! we are definatly proud to have him. jeffrey is getting very attached to him. we have about decided just to share him because we both like him and my little horse is pretty awesome to. he looked the best hes ever looked with me in the ladies spotted class. i got 2nd.i wasnt even excepting to place because all the others were show horses and then there was me,,so that was cool.i wish you couldve been there. they will have another in the spring. maybe you can come then. prob be late march or april. or around there.well gota go get ready to ride, chat later tonight with details from gooses ride 2day.
She apparently doesn't believe in capitalization or punctuation, but it sounded good anyways. ;o)
And here's the latest update on his first real trail ride at his new home
goose did good today.jeffrey rode him.he done really good in the woods.we didnt jump anything yet. he stepped over some little logs and i had to jump cause my horse likes to jump!...lol. he stands on anything you ask him to. troy must have thaught him or did you? he got his front legs on a stump like he knew excatly what to do. he threw his head really bad though. we going to co-op to get a snaffle bit today. hope to find time to ride him after lunch maybe.he lets you open and close gates on him really good! get u some pics as soon as i get this comp figured out.
So I'm anxiously awaiting pictures. I'll post them as soon as I get them.
The update on Goose sounds good!
