This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

Only one gust so far that got me nervous... and I was joined by a big black dog who climbed into my lap to try to comfort me... or himself... one of the two.

Yeah, that's the package I have too. It used to be included, along with about 19 other channels, but they took them off some time back. I didn't watch it enough to justify going up to the next higher package, but you can add individual channels for a dollar each (I think). So it was worth an extra dollar a month to me to have it.
They’re predicting tornadoes around here sometime between 10pm and midnight so it’s going to be a nervous night for me too.
It’s calm outside right now, but it’s also nearly 70 degrees and VERY humid, which ain’t normal for night time in February, even around here.
Yikes. Well, batter down your hatches, I’ll stop being a nervous nellie about a little wind.
I read they have had tornado activity north of you... I hope it doesn’t come anywhere near! Check in when you can so we don’t worry.
Well, we are fine now, but we had a tornado come through just south and east of us. According to the reports it went just about right over my riding buddy Shirley’s house. I hope he’s ok because they’ve been reporting extensive damage in that area and some fatalities. I’m going to try to call him later. I don’t want to wake him up if they’re ok because we all had a rather sleepless night.
The weather radio went off about 3am with the warning so I got up and turned on the TV and was able to see that the worst was going to miss us before we lost the satellite signal due to the heavy rain. That’s the worst thing about satellite TV, sometimes when you need it the worst it’s not there. But it didn’t stay off for long so I sat up and watched it to see where else it was going to hit. I finally turned it off around 4 and went back to bed, but of course the alarm clock went off at 5, so my butt’s gonna be dragging at work today. All the schools in the county are closed because of downed power lines and trees. It’s still dark so I can’t really see anything outside yet but I’ll bet it’s pretty bad out there in places. I sure hope Shirley is ok.
I was just scanning for news to check on you and hadn’t been able to find any - they’re all talking about the election. I too hope Shirley is OK. Let us know what it looks like when it gets light. Sorry for your scary night.
That really doesn't sound like too bad a price, if everything is included. I really hope you get to go. They had over 130 riders at the ride in Ohio.
Same ole gloomy place. The temps have been rather warm (40-50's) with quite a few thunderstorms. Lots and lots of rain with flooding. Very strange for this time of year.
Have you found some riding buddies?

The news was just beginning to show some reports when I had to head in to work so I haven't seen any of it, but here's some links to a local news station that has some video and photo galleries of the storm damage. I can't look at them here at work so I've got no idea what they may be showing...

Glad you and yours are alright. Are you sure your place where the horses are is OK too?
Deaths reported in Lawrence and Jackson counties
Lawrence County is where I live. Shirley lives just south of the town of Moulton, and the Forest where we ride is south of there too. I'll bet our trails are really in a mess.
Yeah, I went by to check on the horses this morning. They were all fine, aside from being wet and muddy. The barn is farther west than my house and the storms came up from the south and east of me so I was pretty sure that they were before I even went.
I try to run by there every morning on my way in anyways, because even though my BIL usually feeds Tennessee for me and shuts the barn gate so that the others can’t stand in there and eat hay all day long, he’s been working some weird shifts here lately and hasn’t been coming and going at his usual hours so I check, just to make sure that he’s not working over or something. And sure enough, he hadn’t made it home yet this morning so I went ahead and fed and shut the barn so he wouldn’t have to and could just go to bed. I’m sure he’s wore out.

Isn’t it really unusual for you to have these kinds of storms this time of year?
We don’t even have a shelter anywhere close. My in-laws who live a couple of miles away have a basement and sometimes if it looks bad enough we’ll take the cats and drive down there, but that’s only if you have enough warning. Most of the time I just sit tight and hope it goes around. So far I’ve been lucky. TheNewHouse (to be built when pigs fly) will definitely have a basement or a shelter of some sort.
Glad to hear you are okay - news reports of the storms and tornados are awful. This was my first stop this morning to see who all had checked in and reported okay.

So did you get your hay in yesterday?
I needed to put out a roll for the mares over at my FIL’s place on Sunday, but the tractor was over at my BIL’s and it rained all day when I didn’t think it was supposed to. We didn’t want to take a chance on driving the tractor on the road in bad weather and run the risk of having somebody run over us so I just had to load up a couple of square bales in big plastic garbage bags and put them in the back of the Jeep and bring them over to make do until we could get the tractor over there. My MIL has never had to feed them hay before, but she did and they did fine. Turned out that it cleared up enough by Monday afternoon that Pop was able to drive the tractor on over and put a roll out for them in the barn so they’re happy as clams again. Feeding rolled hay is handy because of the price, but it’s a pain sometimes if you don’t have the tractor around to handle them. Now I’ve got to get the tractor BACK over to my BIL’s place by THIS weekend because the OTHER horses will be out of hay by then. You’d think they’d be polite enough to at least get on the same schedule wouldn’t you! ;o)
It was too wet to get hay in the truck, so honey had to stop and get a couple bales to get by with, that we could fit in the Ranger.
