2 deaths at Ozzfest, arrests lead to booze ban in parking lot

Authorities are taking a tougher approach after a crackdown failed to stop underage drinking at PNC Bank Arts Center.

Effective Friday, alcohol is banned in the parking lot of the central New Jersey Arts Center. The ban comes a day after two people died and more than 80 people were arrested Thursday night at an Ozzfest concert.

Police are investigating the deaths of two men, identified as Raymond Guarino, 26, of Forked River and Patrick Norris, 24, of Coram, N.Y.

After possibly taking drugs and alcohol, both passed out in separate incidents at the concert, went into cardiac arrest and later died. State Police said the men were believed to have ingested cocaine, marijuana and alcohol prior to their deaths, and troopers who searched Guarino's vehicle found small amounts of both drugs.

Eighty-three people were arrested during the concert; 59 were charged with underage drinking. Other charges included distribution of drugs, lewd behavior and providing alcohol to a minor.

Authorities said the Ozzfest incidents were the latest in a long string of problems this season that led them to ban alcohol in the center's parking lot.

"This is a dramatic step to have to take, but one that is necessary given the potential consequences of such risky behavior," Gov. Jon S. Corzine said Friday.

According to the Survey of Inmates in Local Jails, 1996, more than half of the jail inmates with an intimate victim had been drinking or using drugs when they committed the violent crime.

Well then, you are wasting your time here. If you want to do some good, go out there and straighten the drinkers out. Tax alcohol to within an inch of it's life, ban it from stadiums and public fairs, sponsor advertisements that reduce public tolerance for it. I'm sick of getting into fights with drunks who complain about my smoking. Go get em Baby!

Yes! Let’s arrest every single one of them when they catch our attention. Good plan.

I’m on board. Anything I can do to help arrest and criminilize the drunks and fat asses, let me know.

I bet an entire generation of Grateful Dead fans would call these people sissies. Deadheads could still function after ingesting LSD, nitrous oxide, and hard liquor.

I (literally) ran into the lead singer and drummer from Quiet Riot today at the mall. Well, my son’s stroller did. Rounded a corner to head to the elevator and bam. There they were. In town for a concert tomorrow night.

Anyway, alcohol and time have not been kind to these guys. Kevin DuBrow is rail thin with a bloated beer belly. Yikes! I’d been looking forward to having a beer or two tonight after the kid was asleep, but I changed my mind after seeing these guys.

What does ANY of this have to do with people dying at OzzFest? Um, nothing. Nevermind...:)

The drunks and druggies criminilize themselves.

So go get em. There was a drunk who fell down in the upper deck while walking to his seat with 4 24 oz beers and broke some guy from Washington State’s neck at Shea Stadium a couple of months ago.

They’ve banned drinking at USC, UCLA stadiums and at the Harvard/Yale tailgates. It’s a start.

You can’t smoke anywhere in Shea or Yankee Stadium, but you can drink as much as you want and gorge on $6 hot dogs. It has to stop. It’s hypocritical.

Go get em donna!

IIRC, Ozzy couldn’t get booked with Lollapalooza, so Sharon invented Ozzfest. Seems he’s rubbed a few people the wrong way.

You’re right. It’s not fair Donna. The Marxists and Socislists on the left will MAKE IT FAIR.
