REDMOND, Ore. -- Police arrested three Redmond teenagers accused of burning flags at random homes in the central Oregon city.

The 17-year-old boys were arrested Tuesday at Redmond High School and taken to the Deschutes County Juvenile Detention Center.

An 18-year-old man was being sought for questioning, school resource officer C.J. Johnson said in a statement.

Police say the group targeted 10 flags in a span of a few hours early Sunday.

The boys were charged with arson, criminal mischief and other crimes.

KPTV adds that the The family of an Oregon man killed in Iraq is among the victims who had their flag burned. I wonder why the Associated Press goes out of it's way to avoid saying exactly what kind of flag was burned?

This is not an act of free speech at a protest.

This is a hate crime. They trespassed on private property, in the middle of the night, to burn a symbol that the home owner holds sacred.

What’s next, bricks through windows in the middle of the night? They should be tried as adults for a hate crime.

Do you really believe in hate crimes? That is a slippery slope.

Probably good old home grown hippie kids who have been indoctrinated by their parents and the school system since they were born.

Using liberal logic, this wave of flag-burnings must have been caused by Obama dissing the flag pin.

The type of flags that were burned is irrelevant. What is relevant however, is that they trespassed on someone’s private property in order to destroy private property.

Lock them up no matter if they burning an American, Confederate or Mexican Flag.

OK schedule the Congressional Inquisition... it should happen right after the Noose investigations. Using liberal logic, there will only be more flag burnings unless we make a federal case out of it.

“They should be tried as adults for a hate crime.”

Wrong.

They should have the book thrown at them for trespassing, theft, etc. If they had fathers worth a crap, hopefully they will get a good ass-kicking, and a personal apology to hand out individually, and respectfully.

You can suggest they be tried for “hate crimes,” right after you define what a “hate crime” is without violating the US Constitution and borrowing from the Leftist Lexicon.

Of course it is relevant. Otherwise the paper is just a propaganda organ.

Only thing worse than not reporting the news is not reporting the details if it doesn't fit their agenda.

OK, this could be a good thread. For arguments sake....

If I did this to other people that flew flags of other nations (Israel or Mexico) in the middle of the night, what would happen to me?

Hate crime or no hate crime?

What would happen if I went and burned a rainbow flag, what would happen to me?

Hate crime or no hate crime?

Now if I did either one at a protest?

Am I be expressing myself or is this a hate crime?

Hate crime or no hate crime?

Sorry, I consider hate crimes an abomination and something that liberals support. It bothers me to see that language become part of conservative discussion. We are all equal before the law...........crime is crime.
