The clients I had and currently have are glad to have me... on both platforms.
This article confirms what observed of the Apple Store at a glance. I just happen to be in the mall for the first time in a long, long time yesterday and walked by the Apple Store. It looked more like a college hipster coffee house. There actually were attractive young girls hanging around. I thought of going in and checking it out, but being thirty-one years old now, I decided I didn’t want to be the out-of-place, uncool old guy.
Only 1 MB in 1998?! How old was your PC?
You are aware, aren't you, that Adobe Photoshop 5.0 (the 1998 version) had a minimum system RAM requirement of 32MB and really needed 64MB to even run properly? I don't think Photoshop would work on a 1MB machine... the RAW color picture formats could easily reach 25MB in size.
Pentium II PCs of the era typically had 128MB to 256MB of RAM out the door...
As for the "output was fine," I really doubt that the professionals of the day would have agreed. Color management on the PC lagged far behind the Mac and the handling of fonts, especially the fine hints built into Postscript fonts, were essentially ignored by the PC engine. The PC produced OK graphics work, but not excellent graphics work without a lot more effort than on the Mac. There was/is a reason why the Mac are the platform of choice for graphic artists.
I've been to the Genius bar a half dozen or more times and always got the help I needed and never a sales pitch.
I had PS v3.05 and it ran fine on my office machine. I closed everything else down, and it ran fine. About 13 3.5” disks to install it, IIRC. I never upgraded to later versions, and don’t have it now.
A good instructor is 75% of the class, IMO.
Well-considered reply, RayChuang88. Far more intelligent than TBB’s #40 reply. Thanks for the update.
I may change my mind, one of these days.
