MLB All-Star Weekend - Homerun Derby
Posted on 07/15/2008 7:34:37 AM PDT by frankiep
Did anyone see the Homerun Derby at Yankee Stadium last night? As a Mets fan I usually only watch National League teams, so I had only heard about Josh Hamilton's story and haven't really seen him in action. This guy is a beast though. I have never seen a display of power like the one he put on last night. And just think that he did it, and is in the middle of this incredible season he is having, after missing 3 full years and practically no time in the minors. Unbelieveable. The real life version of The Natural.

hehehe...I was a little bit behind. Forgot I had paused the DVR for awhile while taking the canines out. Had to catch up when you said Mo was blowing it for the AL.

My cousin’s seats are about halfway between home plate and third base just under the overhang. Seats were padded...never seen that before.

Oops, sorry. I'm watching it the old-fashioned way: in real time, LOL.
Hope you're caught up now... c'mon, AL!
These games seem to go ridiculously late... hubby never sees the end of most All-Star games and Super Bowls...

I nominate Dan Uggla as the MVP of the All-Star Game...for awhile there I thought the Red Sox might have to win the World Series at home this year when sweeping the NL team. Now it appears it will be a sweep in the NL city again. (I jest)

Ok folks. The AL just won the game. Navarro was clearly safe at home. The umpires BLEW that call (after blowing the call at second calling Kinsler out). All-Star game but bush-league umpires.

It’s obvious the umps have decided that “anything close” is an out, after watching that play at the plate. That is at least the fourth base path play this game that is questionable, but they have all been called out.

Hmmm... I’m rooting for the AL of course, but Navarro looked out at home to me...

I’m pretty unbiased when it comes to calls and replay clearly showed the foot crossed the plate well before the tag was made, just as it showed Kinsler’s foot was on second base before the tag was made there for the first out of the inning.

I'm rooting for the NL, but all of these base path plays looked wrong to me. And, it looks like there is also a rule "Managers, Thou shalt not b*tch about it".
Since it's about home team advantage, why not just play it like a real game, including managers and players throwing a fit, and umpires tossing them?
Bud Selig continues to be a Wuss. What else is new?

I saw Kinsler's foot on second base before the tag was made. Guess I'm getting bleary-eyed... I didn't see it with Navarro.
Will this game never end?!

There have been some amazing defensive plays for the past 4 innings. I toyed with going to bed but can’t do it!

Yeah, but call the game right, dammit! It might not be such a good game if the umps would call an out, an out!
