Ok, I'm looking to get my first laptop made by Apple. The only thing is, I'm not sure which one to get. So I decided to check with the Mac experts on FreeRepublic.
I will be getting this in June of next year so I know the possibility of Apple coming out with something new between now and then.
I will be using this laptop for every day sorts of things...email, surfing, school work when I start working on my Ph.d, etc. I don't do video editing nor do I make music.
The laptops I'm looking at are the simple MacBook, the MacBook Pro, and the MacBook Air.
So can anyone recommend a laptop, RAM, processor speed, and harddrive size that would be reasonable. I'd love a $3,000 laptop (who wouldn't) but I'd like to stay under $1,900 if possible.
Thanks.
I’m also interested in going Apple laptop, as my Dell laptop has broken down.
But I’m not able to spend anywhere near $2000. I was hoping they had a $800 or less one out there.
My first call is going to be to BestBuy, to see if they sell them. If you find out first, please post.
ok... buy a “PC” for WAY under a grand and put ubuntu on it...
you can turn that stuff off
vista works just fine for me.
the apple will ask you too!
What’s an hour compared with a lifetime (what’s the average span now, 89?) spent trying futilly to shoot a hole’n’one?
I would also go to one of the stores. The sales people are great and know their product and they do not work on commission
2 grand to surf the internet, check email, do school work for a PHD and of course, post on FR...
Sounds like a great deal!
How do you turn it off?
The problem is Mac users. They're evil. All of them. Oh, yeah, they'll tell you it's just a computer but it isn't. They sacrifice puppies to them. REAL PUPPIES! Would I lie?
Ahem. Except for me. I have inoculated myself from the Mac Zombie Syndrome by running Vista Home on one of my boxes and genuflecting nightly to a picture of Bill Gates. It's the only thing that's saving me from turning into one of Them.
I lust after an Airbook, myself. No kidding, they're really cool, possibly the coolest laptops on the market on the moment in my very private opinion. If I had three large to blow on one I'd have it right now. Look, let's be honest here - I'm a geek and the thing is simply righteous. IMHO.
;-)
Rumour has it that Apple will be announcing an aluminum MacBook within the next couple of months, so I’d definitely hold off until then - if oyu can. Having said that, my wife is a College Prof, working on research and papers all the time and she LOVES the MacBook Air. It’s got everything she needs and wants in a very light, very sturdy platform. I suspect that either would be great for you.
Ten bucks for a steak, when you can spend $2.29 for a TV dinner?!
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
Never hoid of ‘MacBook Air’! Is that anything like Air Guitar?
When Vista came out to uniformly dreadful reviews, I told myself that my next computer would be a Mac.
So, I went with a 15” MacBook Pro with 2.5 GHz processor, as a replacement for my 17” Acer laptop with WinXP. Got it bundled with WinXP on VMWare Fusion, just to keep an app or two that I had that I didn’t want to immediately ditch.
Couldn’t be happier. I love not having to re-boot after downloading software updates.
“So Id love to find out what you get.”
I will keep you informed.
indeed... meats the same objective :)
My advice-- for what its worth -- decide what you want out of your laptop. If you are seriously considering Apple, then go to an Apple Store. See the models available to you, see the price, compare. Then, go to BestBuy and see what is available there. You are the one that decides the priorities, not some anonymous poster in internetland, but you.
