Just wondering how FReepers are reacting to the debate. I didn't see a thread devoted to the second debate.

They just interviewed Mitt on Fox and it almost made me cry. To think we could have had this man on the top of our ticket in a time of economic crisis. But hey we can’t have one of those evil Mormons on the ticket can we? Geez, I guess you do get the government deserve.

Lousy format leaving just enough time for senseless soundbites that we’ve heard for almost 2 years. McCain didn’t hit hard enough and didn’t dispute Obama’s letter to Sec. of Treasury regarding reform. Obama’s letter was solely to reverse foreclosures on borrowers who shouldn’t have ever obtained mortgages.

Obama seemed to be more comfortable than usual and didn’t stutter much and got his points across. McCain did just okay. Neither are likely to have changed any minds.

Because Brokaw is a giant, egotistical asshole. He should have just read audience questions, but NO! He had to bore everyone asleep with his own.

John McCain did very well.

But I feel very sad tonight.

We know in our own skin, that nothing damages the human clock-work faster or more profoundly than those kinds of unresolved negative ambiance and emotions that politicians want to use to define for us who and what we are. When Obama says government is the answer, what he is really saying is not only who and what we are, but who and what we are going to be unless we give them the power, unless government provides the answer.

There is actually no forgiveness in the politics of Obama. That is a fundamental thing that the America people are feeble in understanding – and it seems they are not seeing the danger to themselves. There is no forgiveness, and eventually when the politician of such a message fails, the unforgiving blame for this will turn on them. And the government will have the power to injure them, and it will be very difficult to take that power back.

I think McCain already lost his chance when he didn’t stand up against the second bail out proposal, his chance to stand with the people and propose that a better way, a better plan is required.

Surely tonight was the last shot from the front line. I doubt is America is going to tune into the next debate.

I believe America is about to make a vital, terrible, mistake. There is nothing I can do about it, I am simply here and the circle of influence I have is very small.

This is an important conversation that we need to now all have. That we are capable of having. We need now to plan a place where we can go to bring about a kind of alignment to protect our values and our families and our country.

That video of those students who were put into fatigues and orchestrated into chanting the name of Obama, this is just a foresight of what we are looking at. We are looking at a race against time, we now need to choose how we will now evolve in this alignment in which we will need to do, in large part, without the politicians.

They want to take away our ability to make choices. To make decisions. America is about to find out who the rich people are. The rest of the world will scream, that we are all the rich people.

And we need to all pay.

And there is no forgiveness in the politics of those who are behind Obama, and what they want to do to us. There will be no winners in the end.

Obama is going to fail. He may have the power, and take more power away from the people and give it to the government. But he will fail. He can take all money from all the rich people, but it won’t be enough money. It will never be enough. After they take what you have, then America might again start to understand.

The one-limit limitation was to restrictive. Neither could keep it. Even two minutes they ran over.

I'm watching cnn, know he needed to hit a knockout, but voters are being weird right now about the crisis. McCain's getting better review on cnn than I expected after following this thread. They knocked off some points off Obama's ears (the talking heads).

McCain made that crack when asked who he'd have as ? cabinet position. "not you, Tom." I kind of chuckled but the delivery was bad. Obama had no sense of humor at all.

[Obama] voice was as well modulated as Tom Brokaw, but what did he really say tonight?

McCain did hit a home run about Freddie Mac and the contributions in the top, but seemed to wear down.

They are really not saying that much nice about Obama even though they are saying he is ahead. It will probably change by tomorrow.

I had a thought about McCain. What he needs to do. Oh, he's been criticized by someone I yak with elsewhere, "have you ever heard him say anything about the middle class?"

JOHN MCCAIN, GET INTO THE MIND OF THE MIDDLE CLASS AND PLAY IT UP IF YOU CAN AND KEEP IT SHORT ABOUT NO TAX CUTS FOR THE WEALTHY!!! PUT YOURSELF IN THE PLACES, HOMES, SHOPPING, TRY TO RELATE TO THE MIDDLE CLASS!!

WOULDN'T HURT TO TRY TO TALK TO THE POOR, TRY TO SHOW YOU EMPATHIZE WITH THEM SOMEHOW.

AND STILL TRY TO ADDRESS THE ANGER OF AMERICANS!!! JUSTIFY WHY YOU VOTED FOR THE BAILOUT MORE. THEY ARE HITTING ALL POLS HARD ON ABC COMMENT BOARDS.

Hope someone from the campaign sees my post.

No, they are criticizing Obama, really surprising about showing disgust in his facial expressions, etc.

I typed so fast, random thoughts, hope it makes sense.

Obama Refused to Promise to Defend Israel.

In tonight’s second presidential debate there was much boiler plate and little surprise. Perhaps the only electric moment came when Tom Brokaw – a lump of a man with the air of a 17th century royal – asked both McCain and Obama if he, as president, would defend Israel against an attack by Iran.

I was open-mouthed at Obama’s response. Obama tried to skate around the question before finally saying that he avoid having to make that decision by first having made nice-nice with all the other nations in the United Nations that would then use diplomacy to make Iran see the errors of it ways and voluntarily give-up nuclear weapons. I couldn’t believe my ears.

But on November 4, 90% of American Jews will march into voting booths and proudly vote for Obama. Idiots.

McCain lost. Obama won.
Palin needs to be the best sprinter ever in the final lap and more dirt has to come out on Obama that can stick. Right now I’m smoking again and left the debate 4 times to have a cigarette outside to calm down. I fear we’re gonna have the democrats in control of all three branches soon. And on top of each branch we have very scary people with very scary ideologies.

nothing he said tonight will change that.

Agreed.

Oh, don't know how much it is going to matter, BOTH clearly promised they would get Osama. Still seems to be an issue whereas what if he is dead and what if plays out whoever wins doesn't get him.

RE: “Either they’re just warming up, or they both seem really tired and not wanting to do this tonight...hope it heats up soon”

Agree — they started off poorly, both of them — it was a boring debate for the most part — I liked John’s finish and thought he ended on a high note.

We spend way too much of our energy worrying about Osama. He could be alive or dead and it would make no difference. Al Quaeda goes on with or without him. He is a figurehead not Saladin leading his Islamic hordes into battle.

Couldn't agree more. I can't remember how it came up, but it's a non-issue with me at this point considering everything else. If he's alive, what are we going to do with him anyway, have another show trial which might further inflame the Jihadis? We got closure with Saddam, and it doesn't seem to have gained us a whole lot politically.

RE: “Wait....Am I seeing and hearing this correctly. Obama did NOT say he would bypass the UN to take action against Iran if they invaded Israel? HOLY CRAP HE DIDNT ANSWER! BIG MISTAKE BIG MISTAKE He didnt defend Israel!”

You heard correctly! Big mistake by the Zero. BIG. I think McCain closed well. I’m tired, and fell asleep on both of them a few times. I saw no big winner/loser but thought McCain stepped it up in last 45 minutes.

Yeah, right! Mencken wrote:

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.

Looks like this is becoming true. Romney would have been a great candidate, probably the best. But the media would have tried to destroy him, just like Palin. This nation is staring into the abyss. I also think that a great deal of our pessimism about the economy is anticipated by an Obama win.

I think John McCain had a strategy tonight that pretty much worked..........it was this....he wanted to be calm cool and reasonable to get Barry rattled. Barry did get louder and more obnoxious the longer the debate went on, wouldn’t shut up, wouldn’t follow the rules, ranted.....I think it worked. It was a subtle strategy, but I for one think it worked.

I must have been watching a different debate. I thought McCain was doing really well. I thought Obama was rambling at times and said some stupid stuff. But beings its all over and we lost the election, I guess I’ll just go back to sleep until 2012. I could have sworn the election wasn’t till November 4th. Then I come in here and see that its all over and Obama won it. I didn’t even get to vote!
