Rumors are flying around the ‘net that eliminations will no longer be made by the telephone voters, at least until we get down to the final three contestants. Instead, the bottom three will be made to “sing for their survival”, and the Stooges (Executive Producers) will decide who gets booted.

People have noticed:

There are now 4 judges on Idol.
There are four judges on X-Factor.

Last night, the judges got an announcer introduction.
An announcer introduces the judges on X-Factor.

On X-Factor, the home audience picks the bottom three, but the person who leaves is selected by the judges.

My opinion: If this is the “dramatic twist” Mike Darnell of the FOX Network is talking about, this will ruin “American Idol.” Why vote if the public can’t decide who it wants to go home?

When they did this on “Rockstar: Supernova”, this assured Lukas Rossi of winning.

If the Producers want to do it this way, I say, cancel “Idol” now and bring “X-Factor” to the states. Don’t change the basic format of the show all of a sudden in its eighth season. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

OK….here’s my take on last night: (BTW…I hear Carrie Underwood is singing the new “go home” song. An old heavy metal remake if you can believe it.)
1. Allison Irehata – This girl is outstanding! I’m surprised she’s falling so low on DialIdol.
2. Danny – Vocally, he remides me of Elliot Yamin meets Taylor Hicks. Great job.
3.. Alexis Grace – Great vocal and great outfit!! Schwinggg!!
4. Scott Mcintyre – Not his best vocal but he’s a much better piano player.
5. Matt Giraud – Good vocals and keys. I’m glad he’s still in this.
6. Anoop Desai – I still like him but he’s going to have to be better next week or it’s his turn to Beat it!
7. Michael Sarver – Vocals and “dancing” was a bit shaky but he’s not bad.
8. Lil Rounds – Fantasia Jr. was OK tonight. I just don’t like her that much and her “attitude” is annoying.
9.. Jorge Nunez – Much better last week. He’ll be lucky to stay.
10. Adam Lambert – I hate to admit it but the faggot can sing. He’s a bit too “over the top” but if dial idol is right those naughty pics didn’t hurt him.
11.. Megan Corkrey – Very cute face but ugly tats are a big distraction. Not very good vocals tonight as well.
12. Kris Allen – I thought this guy was pretty good in his first rounds but this week he was horrible. I feel he’s on his way home if the “Ashley Furls” don’t vote heavy for him.
13. Jasmine Murray – Good Lord why is she even in this thing?? I’ve heard cats in heat that sing better!
I’d say Jasmine and Kris are “gone” but Jorge may also be there.

I agree-I'm not big on changing it up after all this time...but even if they go the route we're thinking (ie., having the bottom vote getters do a sing off and the judges pick who leaves from that) it's still America voting (or not voting as the case may be) that gets those contestants into the danger zone. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. AI has been losing viewers for a while now...will this help or hurt? From the posts I've seen on this thread, it would seem that it will hurt more than help.

In the Madea movies the character is from Gorgia and the accent is such that the character makes a really funny (exageratedly so) r sound when speaking.

how much do you think “identity politics” plays a part in the voting, at least for the first few rounds? I.e., Jorge gets the hispanic vote, Anoop the Indian vote, etc. ??

I can sum it up in two words: Jasmine Trias.

Sundance Head. I would agree that was the worst season and Jordan might have been the best, but, that too falls squarely into the judges laps. That's what they get for trying to force a winner by selecting certain types to send to Hollywood.

I agree again. That was the season after Taylor, Kat, Daughtry and Kelly and it was so obvious they were going for a "type".

I remember who said it, but last night someone said maybe it was too early to tell if this season would be good or not. I hope they are right, because I'm liking very little about it so far.

Maybe I just need a computer/FR break and some vitamin D (aka sunshine LOL) or something.

So far, no one strikes me as “breakout star” in this lot. There’s still time. Let’s see who delivers the first “wow” performance of the year, and whether they can keep it up.

FYI..here's the NY POST's Idol Betting guide" with odds and comments on the performances last night. Interesting read.

Got home late last night, so had to watch the tape which making splite pea soup for 100 for a Lenten meal tonight at church. It ran late again...on purpose? Keeps eyeballs on FOX and kills the 10PM shows on the other networks, I guess.

No time to scan last night's thread, darn it. I'm confused about the supposedly new format for deciding who goes.

Suprisingly, I found myself really liking Jorge. So, of course, he's in the bottom .

I agree. Normally we can get at least a majority to agree on a good performance, even if we don’t like the person. Everyone knows how I disliked Blake Lewis, but I admit (and did at the time, too) he had a few really good performances. Like I said last night, all the contestants are so mediocre that our preferences are all over the place.

Don’t worry about being confused, they haven’t really said what is going to change. We are all just assuming at this point.

I thought Jorge’s performance wasn’t nearly as horrible as the judges made it sound. Their critiques all sounded like he was 98 shades of awful. He was pretty good. Not my favorite style or song, but he did a passable, pleasant job.

I searched You Tube and found this....

I’d watch them quick, because you never know if Fox is going to make them pull the videos down.
