Thanks for the advice. I always thought storing the freezer preserved the beans.
I agree with the distilled water to make the coffee with. I like to buy Costa Rican beans already roasted but fresh, and grind them before each small pot. I have a big ceramic cup that holds a potful from the little coffeemaker.
The coffee is so good, plain black when fresh brewed, a bit of sugar when older than 1/2 hour.
PS I buy the Costa Rican from St. Louis Bread Co.
“Its trendy to smugly rag on Starbucks”
Trendy and satisfying. To be honest, I’m not a fan of Starbucks not so much for the prices, but of the coffee itself. Which is of course what this article is highlighting.
It depends. If I want a large cup, I use the discs they have specifically for 12 oz. servings. I bought some packets of Butterfinger hot chocolate. If I make a mocha with those, I’ll use a regular coffee disc with the packet powder in the mug, then I hold down the manual button to fill the cup.
‘I use the discs they have specifically for 12 oz. servings’
THEY MAKE THEM?!!!!
Thank you!
I saw this for $50 for a relatively small bag. I always wondered how it tasted. I've bought the imported hawain kona whole bean before. Brewed it immediately after grinding it, and it was the best coffee I've ever had. I remember the aroma after grinding it. You could smell it three rooms away. And that was before the brewing process.
OK, Caribou is OUT. Thanks for the info!
reasonable substitute at this site http://www.greenmountaincoffee.com/
Their “Our Blend” and “Breakfast Blend” are nice smooth coffees.
The Green Mountain Nantucket Blend is damn good, too! Our Blend is still their best, though.
I buy what is on sale. I’ll even buy the store brand. I couldn’t believe how expensive coffee was here in KC compared to Los Angeles. As long as it is dark, bold and strong, I’ll drink it.

Thank you for the heads up. Did not know. Will stop immediately and go back to some of my preferred brands (Brothers out of Colorado comes to mind).
I love Kona as well. The Jamaican has a different flavor profile but I like them about the same. I drink Kona more frequently ( less expensive).
The breakfast blend is very nice. I like their hot cocoa too
I like a Dark Sumatra, brewed strong. I drink it black, and more often than not, the last half of the cup is cold (occupational hazard), but so long as there is no ice on it, I find it drinkable. I agree with ceramic cups as well; plastic/foam or paper cups impart their own flavor (and God only knows what else).
I really enjoy using www.greenbean-store.com for this. I just thought I’d let you know!
