Plain coffee isn’t $5. The lattes and frappocinos cost more. I get a large toffee nut latte for $3.50. I haven’t found a latte that I like at other coffee shops. I also can make it at home, but it’s not as good as starbucks (even though I use their syrup).

I drink too much coffee but my wife bought me a Keurig single cup coffee maker for Christmas and everything that comes out of it tastes great and I’ve tried nearly a dozen different coffees in it. I got the adapter that let’s you use your regular stuff so you don’t have to use the admiitedly convenient little individual packs. I like being able to brew a cup of milder coffee for first cup and then hitting the extra bold later when I’m ready for it.

Picking “best coffee” is like picking “most beautiful woman”. 50 different people have 50 different opinions.

I’m sure their pick of best coffee is as valid as their “proof” that Isuzu Troopers roll too easily. Left wing hacks. They should stick to rating appliances.

Starbucks coffee is the most expensive bitter tasting coffee there is. No wonder they are laying off workers and closing stores. And who wants to read the New York Slimes these days? With Starbucks coffee, you have to pour a ton of cream and sugar into it just to make it remotely smooth. This morning I filled my car up and bought my coffee from the gas station. The coffee I bought there was vastly superior to anything I ever got a Starbucks and the price was much lower.

We picked up a Braun ‘Tasimo’ (?) last year. I laughed at my wife buying it.

Then I had a cup.

Its the greatest thing since sliced bread. Makes a great cup of hot chocolet, best I’ve ever had, btw.

Actually, I am not sure I trust their appliance ratings either. Whenever they do a story on something I know a lot about, their incompetence reveals itself to me. So I never put much faith in them.

BTW, your comment "left wing hacks" is RIGHT ON THE MONEY. Everyone can take it to the bank.

I like the simple stuff: Dunkin, McDonalds & &-Eleven top my list (in that order). Starbucks, Seatlles Best and Krispy Kreme are non-starters!

Eight O’Clock? That’s the best coffee? Yuck. I bought it once and ended up throwing it out before we’d even used half of the package. Almost as bad as that Cameron’s Organic crap.

The best coffee is Caribou’s Mahogany, Mocha Java, or Obsidian. Second runner up has to be Dunkin’ Donuts, followed by my favorite coffees available in Anchorage - anything from Coffee Cats or Kaladi Brothers. Mmmmmmm.......

I used to buy it on the way to work, then moved and there wasn’t one convenient anymore. Which is really odd because you can’t throw a rock without hitting a Dunkin Donuts or Walgreen’s around here.

Anyway, I started buying DD ground coffee at Target. I have a “4 cup” coffee maker and make that every morning. I don’t know who considers that 4 cups of coffee. To me it’s ONE.

They should stick to rating appliances.

Why do you think they're constantly yapping about Toyota (and recommending next year's model before it comes out and gets recalled)?

By the way, I DESPISE Consumer Reports.

“Consumers Reports have been picking Kroger’s 8 O’Clock coffee for 25 years.”

Were these taste tests done on black coffee, or did they allow the testers to add cream and sugar? There is a big difference between they way you make coffee to be drunk black, and the way you make it otherwise.

The fact is most people don’t like the taste of coffee anyway. Take this test: do you drink your cofee black? If the answer is no, then you don’t like the taste of cofee. The ONLY reason to add sugar or cream to cofee is to cover its natural taste.

The reason most people’s coffee tastes like crap is it is ground too fine. This allows you to make coffee quickly, but it also sucks every bit of bitterness out of the bean and into your cup. If you want a smoother cup of coffee use a coarser grind and a french press. The coarser the grind, the less bitter the coffee will be.

Isn’t 8 O’clock the brand a whole bean that you grind yourself? I imagine that means the grind is much coarser than the pre-ground coffee (which is almost a powder.) Coarser grind = better tasking coffee. That’s all you need to know about why it keeps winning.

Hands down the best coffee I ever had was at a Holiday Inn in Beijing China.

My brands at home are Gevalia and Maxwell House.

One of the best brands found in supermarkets and discount stores is Seattles Best. I love their Cinnabon and Creme Brulee flavors. Also, if you have a Sheetz convenience store near you, they sell their coffees (ground). Their Pumpkin Spice (available Fall only) is awesome! I just finished the last of my ‘stash.’
