AMERICA-The Right Way: Staying Vigilant!(Feb.23-Feb.27, 2009)[Remember 9-11!]

Good evening!

In another major address this week, President Obama will outline further economic plans: to cut the federal deficit in half over the course of his first term, to raise taxes on "the wealthiest" Americans, winding down the war in Iraq, and it's reported, raising business taxes.

The Republicans in Congress will have their work cut out for them to oppose tax increases in a time of business downturn, but it needs to be done, and they need our help to oppose the increases.

Continue to make calls, emails, talk to everyday folks you know.

Not so far. Our’s was a week ago and then we’ve just learned that someone else had an intruder at 0500 on Sunday morning. I guess they shifted neighborhoods.

We’re staying vigilant, in any case.

I’m a little confused. Where are you now? And, you’ll be traveling TO Florida? Isn’t that opposite of most snow birds?

I’m in Wisconsin. My oldest lives in Florida. My DIL is having a surprise BD party for his 40th(yikes). We are staying for a week. I expect tulips, daffodils and Hyacinths when I get home(Ya right).

Thanks, I got it. Well, you can have tulips, daffodils and hyacinths when you get home, IF you stop at a nursery and buy them along the way. LOL! How late is Wisconsin’s spring?

Depending on the weather, tulips can start popping thru in the end of March, but usually it is in the second week of April that I have to start hot pepper spraying my bulb flower beds so that the deer and rabbits don’t eat the shoots when they start popping thru. They usually don’t open till May tho. I have many flower beds but I keep the bulbs in only a few close to the house so that I can try to keep them from being eaten.

Ooooh! I understand about the deer and the rabbits. Chipmunks are on my “garden rat” list, too. Those little tender greens are like candy to the pests. Those cute little animals aren’t really all that cute.

Hummingbirds are on my “rather-not-have-them-around” list. They are aggressive and territorial. If only they would just hum about, flitting here and there, getting a sip of necter from one flower to another. But no! Those things fight.

Chipmunks used to be a problem, not with the plants but raiding the bird feeders. I only put them up in the winter now and the chipmunks usually are hibernating. I did that not so much for the chipmunks, but in the spring and summer the blackbirds usually get all the seed anyway. I have enough wild flowers here for the birds to feed in the spring and summer. The last house we had the hummingbirds used to buzz me right in the face, but here they usually keep their distance.

oh my gosh, this thing blew up fast. At 3:00 it hadn't even started snowing and by 4:30 it was a blizzard. Now we have thundersnow and lightning.

I had to drive home from UWGB. Took about 3 times longer as usual and it was some of the worst conditions i've ever driven in. I was so nervous i was shaking. The 172 bridge is halfway closed down due to repair work, and nobody really likes to use the I-43 bridge when it's like this, so the traffic on the 3 downtown bridges was ghastly. Just. Ghastly.

Hubby must have gone out to do his usually Thursday grocery run. I won't rest easy till he's home.

Geee, someone asked Roomey if I was stressed or depressed, when they heard I had the shingles. Roomey answered, I’d been stressed ever since the election. Which is not really true, I’ve been silently angry at the stupidity of some of my fellow Americans.

Just thought I would have a nice relaxing soak in the tub. Didn’t help. All those people suddenly came to mind that didn’t vote on principle. Well, where are their principles now?
