This is the only "non-politcal" item I've ever posted on FR but... well... just watch it. (Rated "G")

Cute girl but overrated, IMHO.

I always enjoy watching a lower class Brit surprise those no-talent judge snobs.

As with Paul Potts last season.

Here’s hoping she makes many radio appearances...

I disagree.

But then I usually avoid haughty biscuits for breakfast.

If she was singing opera (not saying she’s in that class) she could weight 300lbs and make 3M a year.

I loved seeing Simon with his face in his cupped hands, sighing and smiling. I think he’s in love! Very cute.

You apparently didn’t watch the same video as we did.

I LOVED watching the looks on everyone’s face when she started singing. HA

A strike against haughty snobs everywhere

One in the eye for the snobs, and with that I am in TOTAL agreement. The working class of Britain has always been the backbone of that country, and they have depths and talents that your average upper class twit never suspects (unless he's shared a foxhole with one of them).

Now for my usual nit-picking . . . . It's not my kind of music, and while she has an attractive voice and it's quite a contrast to her personal appearance, it's not riveting enough to justify them all being in ecstacies in the first 10 seconds. I would expect to see them sit up and start to listen with concentration, but not to grin, swoon, and sigh. Now if it had been Renée Fleming in a clever disguise . . . .

Also, the camera cuts are so rapid and so early in the song that they HAD to be planned -- unless they run reaction cameras on every judge and the audience all the time.

I smell a setup -- but maybe I'm just a naturally suspicious person.

Sometimes the world needs a happy story, even if it is a con job. Fake but uplifting

Everyone expected this woman to fail but she has a great voice and presence. Good for her!

Truly an amazing voice. She also has a nice sense of humor and is a terrific talent.

With coaching, she could also have stage presence. Many of the no talent twits that we see are limited to only stage presence.

I will buy her first cut CD for sure.

God Bless you Susan Boyle. Stay as sweet as you are!

Over rated? Here is a woman with no formal training and belts out this song. This is not an easy song to sing.
Go on You Tube and check out other professional singers singing that. Then see if you still think she is overrated. IMHO Bah, Humbug to you.

I agree. Too contrasting, too quickly. They should have had looks of delight and appreciation towards the end of the song. What were they expecting at 10 seconds?

If she doesn't have formal training (note the gestures, which are pretty much standard), then I will sing the entire "Hölle Rache", including the high F (and I'm a contralto).

In other words, she does and I couldn't (sorry to have to spell it out for you. I should have bet a steak dinner.)

Don't know why she should be ashamed of having good training. Her tone production is too well supported to be untrained. I know it sort of spoils the "unemployed housewife from East End comes out of nowhere for the win" trope, but good singing is good singing and it doesn't just "happen".
