I’m just throwing out some ideas for brain storming.
Our best bet is to dominate the mid terms in 2010.
We need some real candidates, with real ideas, who understand the people. We need real media, the internet is the only true resource now.
How about a Free Republic Cable News Network?

In a semi-functioning country I’d agree. But the Constitution is not ambiguous...rather it has been TOTALLY IGNORED. The case that threw my overboard was the DC Gun Ban. Somehow, 4 members of the US Supreme Court thought that the Right to Keep and Bear Arms did not exist in the Constitution. Not one Senator or Congressman mentioned impeachment...but those 4 should have been impeached.
Therefore, in my opinion, there is nothing that a Constitutional Convention can do, since the US Constitution can be ignored without penalty. You can re-write and re-write, but they will get into power and simply ignore whatever is their, in order to push through their agenda.
That could happen with an independent Texas...but there’s a good chance that it will not. There is no chance of cleaning up Washington in any case.
I sympathise with your feelings. I don’t think it’s fixable though. I think we’re too far gone.

Thanks, I tried to be as complete as possible, but it’s difficult to even imagine how life could be without the feds. They are so omnipresent.

Yes I would prefer to live in the part of America that was in line with the founding fathers and conservative values.
It took the villains many years of gradualism to get where they are today, an in the process, they used endless largess, and bankrupted the country in the process. But this is important, because to renounce all the promises they made would ruin America’s credit for decades.
This means no more largesse, and thus their villainy would have to be on a budget.
It’s important to note that the first president to ignore the Constitution was Washington, in putting down the Whiskey Rebellion. And while the Alaska Purchase was being considered, 300% of the entire Congress had been bribed—that is, each congressman and senator had received on average three bribes.
Government is never pretty, but that shouldn’t stop us from trying to keep it from becoming Medusa ugly.

I totally agree with you. That's why I think the red states should seceed. Let them enforce their laws in the blue states. We can start over again with the constitution, eliminating all the damage they have done. Make a few clarifications so that the meanings can no longer be twisted and voila... freedom springs anew.
And we get to saddle them with all their socialist debt. That'll sink 'em pretty quick.

We are effectively doing that by printing money, as China has obviously figured out. We plan to pay back our foreign and domestic debt with dollars that are worth one third of what they are worth now.
...and the majority of that domestic debt is the retirement savings of Americans.
It will get ugly no matter what Texas does.

Hopefully we do take that approach - and I expect that to be the case, as the vast majority of Texans that want independence ADORE the Constitution and just wish that it wasn’t treated as toilet paper in Washington.
The Constitution is an awesome document and I agree that it needs only a few tweaks to make it up to date.

Not really. Dallas and Austin maybe. I’m not stating that things would be peachy. I think people are being delusional that there is some type of Utopia here or that one could be created. In reality Texas has its own issues and at best I think we would have a Bushian state. I guess the difference (and this is important) is that the top Government would be closer to home. The closer Government is to the people, the easier it is to changed, correct or what not. Conservatives don’t protest D.C. much, because of the myriad of issues like getting time off from work, cost of travel, cost of hotel and cost of food. If the Government is only 3 hours away then one would only need to take the day off and drive down in the morning and drive back home at night.
Worth repeating. It wouldn't be easy, and it wouldn't be quick.
The reality?
Even if the current state Government stays in place, National Guard is called up in the name of the state and law enforcement stands in their posts this state would still go into turmoil and confusion. Despite the fact that Texas can easily stand on its own feet as a major power, would not keep it from going into a severe recession that could take 10-20 years to get back to where we are today. The money issue would be huge. I don’t think we have enough precious metals as a temporary back stop. Most likely oil would have to be used and would be viable for at least 10 years until things stabilized.
And this all assuming Texas separates without a wimper from the Federal Government.
The reality as Gen. Franks (lives in Midland by the way) would tell you, is that there will be war and Texas would be at a defensive war from the start and you do not fight such wars on your own turf. That is a losing proposition.
So Okies, New Mexicans and Louisianans would wake up one morning to the site of Texas troops digging in defensive lines and seizing any strategic places that is needed. And guess what? Louisianan oil fields is now OURS! Louisianan Salt Dome is now OURS! Louisianan Port of Southern Louisianan (the only deep water sea port in the country, Houston is currently building one, but it is not complete) is now OURS! Control of the Louisianan portion of the Mississippi River is now OURS!. Texas would need a navy and guess what, that nice boat of yours is now OURS! For defensive purposes the naval control would have to be extended to the Caribbean. That means seizing Miami, Key West and other islands.
Also guess what. Texas will put a premium on its survival, so OK, LA, NM your fucked! Okieland will be awash of so much blood that miners will be digging for iron a century later.
That map is the most amazing thing I have ever seen in explaining this economy. Every person should see it.
Our economy was quite stable between 07 and most of 08, actually. Fluctuations, to be sure, in the job market, but nothing shockingly sudden.
Until you get to the change between Oct 08 and Nov 08. Everyone should play with that interactive map and I HOPE they will see see how Nov 08 CHANGEd us.
I agree. Our government needs to know we're serious about the future of this country that WE love and that we will take whatever steps are necessary to save it.
