I remember the guy caught with explosives in his trunk by an alert INS agent coming in for the mellinium plot.

I believe that was at the border, the Canadian Border. This was inland. I don't even believe that once you show that you are a US Citizen (with a Passport) at a border crossing that the government has the right to search to search without probable cause or a warrant. Once you have established that you are a US Citizen, you are a US Citizen on US soil and all those nasty things Jefferson and the boys established come into play or they used to.

I don't know what the laws are about having to identify oneself to Federal Agents but I do know that these people frequently act under color of law. Since my father fled from a place where one could be asked for his "papers," to come to the United States, maybe I'm just more sensitive to gestapos than you are.

The courts have stated NUMEROUS times that simple proximity to the border grants border officials (such as Customs & Border Protection Officers and Border Patrol Agents) probable cause to search.

Think about it. Out in the desert, there's a million places to cross the actual border, but there's only one road going north for several hundred miles. You set up a checkpoint fifty or sixty miles inland knowing that most of the illegals and dope smugglers aren't going to hike overland more than ten or twenty miles before they link up with their transportation north.

Now, 99% of the folks that come through just roll down their window, say "US Citizen" and they're on their merry way. Of the one percent that don't do that, 99% of them are either illegals or drug smugglers.

Now this gentleman comes through, whose sole purpose is to antagonize the OBP agents into a confrontation. He got exactly what he wanted.

Finally, I'd be wary of any "pastor" who wasn't familiar with 1 Peter 2:13-17 :

"Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king."
