On May 5th, it produced an impressive coronal mass ejection...

Activity continued apace on May 6th with at least two more eruptions.

Back in the army that meant being scrapped. I'm not quite ready for that.
New York. Low winter sun.
That, um, sounds a little lewd.
Thanks. That makes sense.
That, um, sounds a little lewd.
Hot and bothered, yes.
Was that coronal mass ejection good for you?
The Sun is a Variable Star!!!!!!!!
We’re all gonna die!!!!!
(What do you mean it has been doing this for as long as the earth has been here? Don’t cloud the issue with facts man!)
On the far side of the moon.
The globalist warmers are peeing their panties from excitement. I hope it is just a hiccup. Nothing will prove the warming demagogues wrong faster than an extended solar minimum.
That would also cause more energy used. Higher prices with the proceeds going to the bad guys.
“...The Sun has suburbs? Must be tough to keep a green lawn. ;-)...”
Just based on the pic, the Sun IS green. Must be all those lush lawns.
Sunspot or not, the Sun remains in a minimum for now, since the last spot before this was the previous cycle. Once there are several new-cycle sunspot groups (each with individual spots) present at the same time, I’d say we’re definitely on our way towards maximum. That is, of course, unless we’re headed into uncharted territory (for modern astronomy) with another Maunder Minimum type event.
Another interesting data point is that lately sunspots have been dying out after a day or two. So, even if this was a sunspot on the other side, it may never appear on this side, or be included in the “official” count.
I don’t know what this means, if anything. But it will be, IMO, a good sign if there are more spots.
Well...I like the current global cooling trend since it so directly contradicts the global warming nonsense. Of course, the Sun will do what the Sun will do. Last year we had 73% spotless days, so far this year we’re at 86%, and last year was a 100-year level event...
There is some evidence that independent of the sunspot cycles, sunspots may become invisible (the core temperature has been rising over the last few decades) by 2015. This is not understood, but is a plausible explanation for Maunder Minimum type events.
Interesting times, to say the least.
“That would also cause more energy used. Higher prices with the proceeds going to the bad guys.”
A long solar minimum couldn’t possibly cost us more, or put more money into the pockets of bad guys than global warming policies.
It’s just a skittle crapping sky unicorn coming to America and summonned by Obama the fruitcake.
