The largest influx of trolls came in 2004, right after the Buckhead incident. A ton of them stayed. They use non-political threads (sports and pop-culture mostly; my favorite troll loves earthquake threads) to make friends and build cred. One thing they’re not here to do is engage in anything remotely resembling honest debate. They try to keep the activism in check, to sow seeds of doubt in potential participants and turn the place into a bickering AOL-type message board rather than a community.
I actually agree with JV. I wish the mods were a little more aggressive with them. I wish it was more difficult to register here, too.

He scared quite a few folks around here!
He was pretty good at it, too.
Yep...badge of honor...
(He reminded me of one of my uncles.)

You really want to argue with a LET WING LIBERAL on the economy, national security, healthcare, unions, etc... Yes, at least with the ones who actually argue. The trolls who post an article, and then run away, are another story. Not many Lefties like to debate on a forum where actual debate can occur, because they tend to get creamed.

What?

Certainly some of the Rudy fans self purged by doing their suicide opuses. But if they want to stand and argue facts and not slander conservatives, then I have no problem with them. Anymore than I have a problem with most GOP cheerleaders here.

Why Is Free Republic Allowing Liberal Trolls To Stay? Well, jveritas...it's like this. Jim must have subjects to test the FR's environmentally friendly anti-troll product "Troll Away" on. If there were no trolls on the FR how could he test a product that is only designed to repel trolls? :^)
To: pissant
True. But as I read today that Hussein has taken the first steps to make the U.S. a nuclear free nation. I find myself wanting to ask those folks who carried on as if Huck, Rudy and Mitt were the devil themselves, do they feel safer?

There are several people who do nothing but post things meant to demoralize conservatives or promote the homosexual/anti-Christian agenda.

Antoninus, I concur. Note that you are the second one to have pinged steve-b to this thread. Might we be detecting a pattern here? :)

A private organization is allowed to let anyway they want into their organization and not allow anyone they dont want. We are not the government. I suppose using your logic the Boy Scouts should be required to allow homosexuals into their organization.
You posting point has nothing to do with what I was stating or asking of jveritas.
Sure, any forum or organization has a right to do as they wish, but, in the specific case of Free Republic, it's not just any organization. It is a conservative forum, owned and run by a conservative.
However, my point is that, if the forum were to be run with only strictly conservative members and only with strictly conservative opinion, that the forum would cease to be one of the most visited forums on the internet, and the membership would dwindle to a small fraction of what it is currently.
If a forum only accepts opinions that echo everyone else's opinion in the forum, then, why even bother to post or reply to posts? Heck, why ever be a member?

If they remain civil and state their points of view well, they make us think more critically and measure our responses appropriately. And some of us are so single issue oriented that we fail to see that someone who disagrees with us on that issue may agree with us on 70, 80 or 90% of other issues.
Just remember, the first one to call names loses.
