If they remain civil and state their points of view well, they make us think more critically and measure our responses appropriately. And some of us are so single issue oriented that we fail to see that someone who disagrees with us on that issue may agree with us on 70, 80 or 90% of other issues.
Just remember, the first one to call names loses.
This happens a lot, truth be told. If you read Jim Rob's post about the conservative values he wants, I'm in line with 95% of it. Toss in some other stuff that's discussed here a lot and I'm down to 85%.
Some would say that 15% disagreement makes me a troll. I say that if you dump everyone who disagrees with 15% of stuff, it'll get pretty lonely around here. My biggest disagreement I just keep pretty quiet about. No need to stir the s--t just to be stirrin' it. I've got my opinions, others have their own. It's a free country, after all.
Kudos to you for recognizing that about yourself, btw. Others haven't quite figured it out.
