REDMOND, Wash. Microsoft has been bloodied and repeatedly humbled in its battle with Google in online search.
That explains why Steven A. Ballmer, the typically bullish and boisterous chief executive of Microsoft, is speaking cautiously about his companys latest volley against Google, a new version of its search engine that Mr. Ballmer was scheduled to demonstrate publicly for the first time at a technology conference on Thursday.

Worth every penny. I wish I would have thought of it. lol.
They are calling it “Bing”. I imagine they want you to picture “bada-BING!” but the first reaction of the NPR radio commietator I heard review this was to play “The White Cliffs of Dover” and several other Bing Crosby hits. Yep, talk about INNOVATIVE! Does it pour you out some warm milk with every search?
Actually it was a rhetorical question :) The answer is none. Google became popular by word of mouth alone, as opposed to Microsoft who spend tens of millions of dollars trying to fool people into buying their shoddy products. I have sworn by Google since 2000 ! Back then it was already the best search engine nobody knew about.
They might want to work on that logo. Since the glasses are black, and almost connected to the Bs, I read “BOOB”, before I read “BOB”. :-)
Will this replace www.live.com? I find that site easy to use.

I understand with most things, there is an installed base, and people are resistant to a new learning curve, but if someone eventually does make a better search engine, it will be absolutely free to use, and Google could be abandoned overnight. If somebody really came up with something that would cut out the crap that Google produces (and all the other search engines produce even more of!) then I'd use that engine in a New York minute.
