Some here know I love the Diana Gabaldon ‘Outlander’ series. I was re-reading ‘Drums of Autumn’ last night. The character Claire makes this observation after a few of the guests at a dinner, 200 years ago, were railing against the British taxes imposed on them.

“With vivid memories of the last IRS form I had signed, I agreed that a two percent tax was a positive outrage, wondering myself just what had become of the fiery spirit of American taxpayers over the intervening two hundred years.” Chap. 7
