Festival fans hoping to hear a parade of Bruce Springsteen's greatest hits were left disappointed

The crowd tried booing, chanting and raucous applause but Bruce Springsteen resolutely refused to play Born in the USA to a pleading Glastonbury audience last night.

The 59-year-old American served up a lively performance, putting paid to critics who predicted he would turn the Saturday night headlining slot into a “dad rock” event, but fans hoping for a nostalgic show were left disappointed.

The first of the music veteran's smash hits, Born to Run, didn’t come until two hours into his set, and it was close to three hours before he brought out Glory Days and Dancing in the Dark, which closed the show.

By that time, festivalgoers looking for a sing-a-long had long abandoned the Pyramid Stage.

Danielle Folley, 30, of Gloucester, who gave up at midnight, after two hours in the thronging crowd, said: “He was really alive and really energetic but he didn’t play Born in The USA and everyone was quite gutted about it. I don’t know why he chose to do that.

“We were hoping to hear all the hits that we grew up with and we wanted to reminisce, so it was a shame.”

Good! It’s an anti-America song anyways. I hate it.

I thought of a better headline: Springsteen aborts Born In The USA.

Born to Run is the better song anyway.

He was honoring Obambi by not singing “Born in the USA”.

Then give a huge wet sloppy kiss to the saxophone player every night.

I personally cannot stand this man.

OK, so sometimes I can be pop-culture illiterate. Was that line a lyric to a song?

I like to think of it as an anti-Democrat song, without Bruce even realizing it.

Let us never forget, and let’s not anyone else forget, that it was Democrat Presidents (Kennedy/Johnson), plus a significantly Democrat-controlled Congress (both Houses) that got us involved in that war, and when we did, refused to fight it in a way that we could win it.

As a result, 58,000 of our troops died fighting a war of attrition in vain. And the Democrats are 100% responsible for that. No ifs, ands, or buts. No wiggle room whatsoever. Period. 58,000 troops dead, thank you Democrats.

Exactly. The anti-US limeys wanted a sing along and they didnt get it. Maybe “Born in East L.A.” would be more sufficient for the tools in the crowd..

BORN IN THE USA

Born down in a dead man's town

The first kick I took was when I hit the ground

You end up like a dog that's been beat too much

'Til you spend half your life just covering up

[chorus:] Born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A.

I got in a little hometown jam

And so they put a rifle in my hands

Sent me off to Vietnam

To go and kill the yellow man

[chorus]

Come back home to the refinery

Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"

I go down to see the V.A. man

He said "Son don't you understand"

[chorus]

I had a buddy at Khe Sahn

Fighting off the Viet Cong

They're still there, he's all gone

He had a little girl in Saigon

I got a picture of him in her arms

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary

Out by the gas fires of the refinery

I'm ten years down the road

Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go

I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A.

Born in the U.S.A.

I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A.

Born in the U.S.A.

I was just a wee lad when the Vietnam war was going on but it seems to me Richard Nixon basically hung the South Vietnamese out to dry.

I could be wrong about that.

I don’t know why he chose to do that.

Newsflash: Bruce Springsteen is an A--hole. Always has been. But don't despair, you may someday get to see his snot rag up close at the RocknRoll Hall of Fame.

No, the Democrat controlled Congress hung our ally, the Republic of Vietnam out to dry, cutting off all military aid in the face of a North Vietnamese multi-divisional combined arms offensive, refusing to honor the treaty commitments made by the United States in the Paris Peace Accords.

“I was just a wee lad when the Vietnam war was going on but it seems to me Richard Nixon basically hung the South Vietnamese out to dry.”

That is what the popular media would have you believe. Nixon inherited a God-awful mess in VietNam. The Dems got us involved in that war, they escalated it, and then they didn’t have the guts to play to win.

The popular media would also have you believe that the Nazis were right wing (they were decidedly left-wing), and that racism is a solely a Republican characteristic (when most of the Southern racist politicians were Democrats).
