Vinegar is a fat buster
The Times of India ^ | 7 Jul 2009 | IANS

The vinegar used to garnish salad dressings, pickles and other foods, may live up to its folk reputation as a fat buster and health promoter.

Japanese researchers Tomoo Kondo and colleagues noted that vinegar has also been used as a folk medicine since ancient times, for a range of illnesses.

Modern research suggests that acetic acid, the main component of vinegar, may help control blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and fat accumulation.

Their new study showed that lab mice fed a high-fat diet and given acetic acid developed significantly less body fat (up to 10 percent less) than other mice, said an American Chemical Society (ACS) release.

Importantly, the new research bolsters evidence that acetic acid fights fat by turning on genes for fatty acid oxidation enzymes.

The genes churn out proteins involved in breaking down fats, thus suppressing body fat accumulation in the body.

These findings were published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

High fashion models’ beauty regimen includes a light spritz of diluted vinegar on the face before applying makeup..........adjusts the skin’s PH balance.

Other models use a VERY diluted vinegar rinse after shampooing——adds volume. DO NOT EVER put full strength vinegar in your hair-——it’ll strip the hair of vital natural oils.

So what would your opinion be, regarding taking a tablespoon of vinegar every day, during each meal?

It's not going to hurt you. A lot of people who eat salads probably have as much as that.

Back in the 1950s when I was a kid growing up in Brooklyn, there was an Irish cop on the beat who used to tell us that Mother Vinegar was the best thing for you. Does anyone know if there was any Irish folklore surrounding this?

How do you explain steatorrhea then?

It's a malabsorption syndrome. The small intestine is not functioning properly to absorb fats.

I have been on it for a couple weeks and it takes care of my acid reflux. Four tsp Apple Cider Vinegar, three tsp Maple Syrup (has lots of antioxidants) two ounces of water makes it very palatable!!!

I am making kombucha and made my own mother by using a bottle of kombucha to make the mother.

I am now on my second generation and my kombucha is getting a nice fizz to it.

Apple Cider Vinegar...but not the commercial crap....get the natural kind with the “mother” in it.

Vinegar is vinegar. Unless you're interested in the flavor, cheap white vinegar by the gallon is the same thing.

I rinse my daughter's pug dog's ears with water/vinegar to disinfect and reset the pH. It keeps the ear fungus away.

Ironic, isn’t it? I read somewhere that taking vinegar helps heartburn by boosting the acidity in the stomach, which causes the sphincter at the base of the esophagus to constrict, which prevents further reflux. Makes sense to me.

If you try it——spray w/ a very fine mist——just a few drops will do the trick.
