This will be a general purpose thread for F1 news and pings that really don't require a thread of their own.
Nice to learn the snow line around Nurburgring!
I was waiting for the four wheel drift into the snow drift!

The BBC documentary charts the dangers and accepted death toll of F1 during the 60s /70s, and how drivers like Jackie Stewart, who grew sick of their closest friends being killed on racetracks, took control of their destiny. Looking at the sport today its amazing to see the uphill battle Jackie and his peers seemed to face.
The scene at 55 minutes - David Purley at Zandvoort in 1973, trying to save a mans life while everyone else simply stands around watching - is incredibly harrowing....
It did two things for me:
1) Gave me a hell of a lot more respect for Jackie Stewart
2) Made me wonder if Colin Chapman, though clearly a genius who did value his drivers, was dangerously cavalier...?

Williams driver Bruno Senna has tipped Caterham to surprise this year but expects all the midfield teams to make a leap forward.
David Coulthard has warned Lewis Hamilton against traveling around the world to see friends between races. "I don't think it's going to be good if you are clocking up lots of miles in between the events," said the Scot. "If he is doing the LA trips a lot he may think sleeping in an aircraft is sufficient."
F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has indicated that the Bahrain Grand Prix will go ahead as planned. "The teams are all committed to be there, and will be there, and want to be there and like to be in Bahrain," he said. "Up until now we've never had any problems in Bahrain and we sincerely hope when we get there this year there won't be any problems. Is it good for the country? Personally, I believe yes. I really believe yes."

Mercedes will not target a tilt at the World Championship until 2014. Germany's DPA news agency quotes motorsport director Norbert Haug as saying that, after finishing fourth in the constructors' standings in 2010 and 2011, the leap to first place is not possible in a single step. You don't just jump from fourth to first, so we want to do the countdown: four, three, two, one," he said.
Former F1 driver Riccardo Patrese has urged Ferrari to take action over the lack of Italian drivers in the sport following Jarno Trulli's split with Caterham. "Maybe Ferrari, if they wanted, could have an Italian driver as the second driver in the team particularly as Massa hasn't looked particularly good in the last couple of seasons. They could take a small risk to take a young Italian driver but this hasn't happened since the time of Michele Alboreto [in the 1980s]. I think there are good young Italian drivers but they need to be given the opportunity to prove their ability."

That can mean not a lot of laps and a lot of garage time, but we gathered a lot of good information today and that's a pleasing way to finish the week."
for those, like me, that never got to see the movie Senna...

Mine just got here Saturday.
Very nice piece. Went into a lot of the stuff about him that I remember, the early years in the JPS, the rain, Senna/Prost at Suzuka two years in a row and the events surrounding all that, him and Balestre, Dr. Watkins, Lauda and Stewart. A very poignant bit of cinema.
And his end was handled so well, no commentary, just video of the start, the crash, the docs getting him out of the car, and the helicopter heading off over the horizon.
Well worth the $16 I spent on Amazon, I’ll watch it again.
Olé Senna. Obrigado, adeus, bravo. I don’t cheer the bull, I cheer the matador.
Yeah, but some of the captions are in Spanish or Portugese. It is all clear enough I could follow. I’ll watch it with my glasses on next time ;)
As I have stated before, I always thought I hated that bastard, but it was at the San Marino GP in 1994 I realized I loved and respected the man.
I’ll always be on Senna’s wing, going into Tamburello.
nicely done, Thanks
I take a few things away from this film, mainly that Ayrton was really a good guy, and Prost is a prick.
