Is Caterack the Cat 30 Years Old?
AOL ^ | 10-2-09 | Kirsten Taylor

Way back in 1979, Alisa Morris adopted a 5-week-old feral kitten born near her mother's house. Thirty years later, Caterack the cat is still kicking, reports People Pets.

When Caterack was born, Jimmy Carter was president and the Village People's "YMCA" had just debuted on the charts. Five presidents and loads of bad songs later, the 30-year-old indoor cat -- that's 137 in cat years -- is starting to show her age. She doesn't hear so well these days, and she's been blind in her left eye her entire life. But she still gets around. Caterack likes to dance to loud music on the stereo and comes running whenever the vacuum cleaner is on, Morris tells People Pets.

There must be something about the Lone Star state that breeds long-lived kitties. Caterack lives with Morris and her husband in Midlothian, Texas. The oldest cat ever recorded, according to the Guinness World Records, was Creme Puff, who hailed from Austin, Texas. Creme Puff died in 2005, three days after her 38th birthday.

Caterack has a few years to go before she can challenge Creme Puff's title and she's got competition -- including Tizzie, of Lancashire County, England, who is purported to be 36. (Although there's evidence that Tizzie may not be as old as her owner claims.)

Records aside, Morris says she counts her blessings that she's had her beloved cat so long. "I've tried getting myself ready for when it's her time and I even given [sic] my okay to her if it's that time now," she told People Pets. "I told her it's okay, I'll be okay."

30 years of napping, resting up for nap-time, sleeping, reposing and laying about. With about 2 weeks of activity in the form of jumping on full bladders at 3AM. And yowling for food.

MSgt, I've just realized that I've been hot-bunking with catz for years now. They booted my ass out of bed this morning as well as any TI, and took it over. I'd like a little nap right about now, but don't have anyplace to stretch out. They won't un-ass the bed until about 1600. When they'll want food.

Tyranny, thy name is Cat.

I had a huge Burmese tom cat for 24 years, and he was 2 when I got him. His name was Grumpy. It was devastating when he moved on. Still miss him and dream about him.

Have to be firm with them. Explain that this is your house
and must follow the rules

Let me know how you make out

Have to go now - kitty is hungry and crying for lunch....

I know johnny, I live with 2 who lived to be 23 years old each and they did demand what they wanted. I miss them, even though they’ve been gone for some years. They were fun and funny....most of the time.

One of my kitties has mastered the art of demanding food. If the food bowl is empty in the middle of the night, she jumps on the bed and starts pawing me. If that doesn’t work, she’ll take a mouthful of my hair and pull it. She won’t stop until I get up and feed her.

My cat does the same thing....course she never leaves my side during the night....and swear a couple times a night, she gets up..slaps me in the face a couple times and meows..I reach over to her food (already on the nightstand) and she eats....I wait till she’s done and I put it back. I do this because for so long I had trouble getting her to eat, so I don’t mind ....so much.....

In cat-speak, the term for ‘human’ is ‘can-opener’. Get used to it.

Get larger bowl for kitty.
Fill bowl right before you go to bed.
(P.S.: Adding some water to canned food helps prevent it from drying out and becoming unacceptable to kitty over the course of your inexcusably long slumber.)

We don't do cans.

However, here 'human' = "warm furniture."
