Historians have long agreed that Russian revolutionary Vladimir Ilyich Lenin suffered a series of three strokes that eventually led to his death. But new evidence has been uncovered that appears to show Lenin actually succumbed to the sexually transmitted disease, syphilis. The Soviets made huge attempts to cover up the real reasons for Lenin's erratic behaviour and sudden bouts of rage in the years leading up to his death in 1924...

He does look like he died with a smile on his face.

Couldn’t they just test his mummified corpse for mercury? Mercury was the standard treatment for syphilis back then.

I think they could add Cortez to the list...at least according to my long-ago Spanish professor who called him el sifilitico.

I read someplace [and saw it on DISCOVERY or some cable show, that after he died, they had Lenin’s [and subsequently other]brains removed for study at some scientific institute [to help breed ‘socialist man’. If I recall they had a shot of the brain in a bell jar [the ultimate ‘A.B Normal’]. So they should be able to find what they need by studying the brain.

The eminent Russian scientist Ivan Pavlov...The Nobel winner - famous for his conditioning work with dogs - once stated that the 'revolution was made by a madman with syphilis of the brain,'..."

And that is supposed to be evidence?

Throw in Al Capone. There were rumors Hitler had it to, based mostly on his appointment of Theodor Morell as his personal doctor. [Morell was a quack who shot Hitler up with all sorts of crap, but his practice had been syphilis before the appointment.]

No reason it had to one or the other. He was pretty much a shattered man before the end.

Funniest comment - Let's hope the remaining two, Paul and Ringo don't go the same way.- Lauren Llama, Liverpool

And, of course, a favorite of mine,

Where Lenin lies the red flag flies, and the rat-grey workers wait
To tread the gloom of Lenin's Tomb, where the Comrade lies in state.
With lagging pace they scan his face, so weary yet so firm;
For years a score they've laboured sore to save him from the worm.
The Kremlin walls are grimly grey, but Lenin's Tomb is red,
And pilgrims from the Sour Lands say: "He sleeps and is not dead."
Before their eyes in peace he lies, a symbol and a sign,
And as they pass that dome of glass they see - a God Divine.
So Doctors plug him full of dope, for if he drops to dust,
So will collapse their faith and hope, the whole combine will bust.
But say, Tovarich; hark to me . . . a secret I'll disclose,
For I did see what none did see; I know what no one knows...

There are also allegations that Stalin poisoned Lenin.

LOL! HERE's the whole thing. It's a great Halloween poem - got a ghost, a couple of murders, a bombing, a prisoner escaped from Death Row at the Lubyanka...

(And a rhyming structure so tight it makes would-be poets despair...)

Don't they have Blockbusters near you? Check out "Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet," with Edward G. Robinson. The treatment Robinson invented back in the early 1900s was made from Arsenic. They named it Salvarsan 606, because until the 606th formulation, it killed the germ AND the patient. Nowhere in the movie did Robinson tell anyone how one actually caught syphilis. (That was reserved for later Armed Forces Training Films) However, in the film, a classic biopic, Edward G. Robinson also managed (almost single handedly) to save the entire German Empire from Diptheria, just in time for WWI. Boy, was the Kaiser ever happy!

Real Americans my age also know that Don Ameche invented the telephone. Paul Muni cured Rabies. Greer Garson discovered radioactivity. Mickey Rooney morphed into Spencer Tracy to invent the lightbulb and the phonograph. And it was Errol Flynn who died at Little Big Horn.

BTW, that thing in Lenin's Tomb is made from wax, sawdust, and the entire range of Max Factor Cosmetics. Any scientific analysis is liable to show that the guy died from severe lipstick poisoning.

Dang right. And the Mongol hordes that swept across the known world were led by John Wayne. Prove it isn’t so.
