Was I Immoral or Wrong? (Vanity)

Posted on 11/30/2009 9:56:50 PM PST by TheArizona

My wife has Christmas pictures sceheduled in about a week. I was told to take myself and my older boy to Great Clips and have our hair cut. (No $1200 haircuts for me.)

Anyways, it was near closing time and there were 2 people working, a female and a male. The man was a big dude in height and weight maybe 6'0 200+ lbs with a beard and Go-T. Sorry, I don't know how to spell it. His fingernails were painted black and had an obvious gay accent.

He said it was my turn, I immediately asked if the female could do it because she had done us before.

1. I never liked idea of a man cutting my hair let alone one who was obviously gay.

2. I did not want that man close enough to touch 1 hair on my 3 year old sons head.

I am sure he was a very nice man who was probably disease free and most likely was not a child molester, but I couldn't help but think I was a bad father if I allowed him to cut our hair. On the other hand, I felt guilty for possibly being a homophobe. I erred on the side of my son.

For the record, I have no problem with gay men, I just don't want my kids exposed or indoctrinated into their lifestyle. If it were a lesbian I probably wouldn't think twice about letting her cut my hair. Obviously, I have a double standard.

Any thoughts?

As a parent, you have the final word on who your 3 year old does and does not get touched by.

Don’t let any lingering fears of nonexistent ‘homophibia’ cloud that truth.

Since homophobia is a made up thing you are not one.

It is your determination who will cut your hair and the hair of your son. Nobody else can decide that for you. If you don’t want a gay man near your son, that’s your business and you don’t need to feel guilty for it.

I like how you said that “you were told”. Wife has you trained well. :)

My boys are okay with a Barber cutting their hair. Not sure how they would feel about a gay guy?

I’ve personally only known two guys that weren’t gay that did hair in a “salon”.

The customer is always king.

This is an area where you can only predict the type of end-result style of a service by the displayed tastes of the provider. Therefore discrimination of provider based on their personal style is the smart call to make.

A similar situation is going to a tailor, only to find they dress like a slob, or in a manner you wouldn’t want to be seen in. Everyone would understand why you’d turn around.

I wouldn’t worry a whit about it.

no....you practiced discretion which is your right but also your responsibility as a parent.....

it doesn't matter what you feared or avoided....that is subjective...but if you felt uneasy its best to protect yourself and your little one...

Well, it doesn’t take (.)(.) to cut hair, but you ultimately make the choice.

What an interesting poster you are, TheArizona.

It’s hard for me to believe a “parent” would post something like this:

I don’t think anyone truly hates all lesbians. The lesbians that are attractive that don’t get buzz cuts, wear flannel shirts, and pant suits (every liberal female politician) are fantastic.

Lets be honest, men dig watching two hot chicks making out. Mainly because its wrong, dirty, and naughty. I like it because there is nothing more beautiful than seeing a couple of hotties experimenting. I even know straight women who get turned on by watching two or three women.

No one except for gay men enjoy watching other gay men.

The movie is a flop because it has a cheezy plot.

I would go pay 8 bucks to go watch Miss Fox doing lesbian scenes. Although, if you let her go out and get drunk one night you may get to see it for free on youtube or TMZ.

My .02

It’s your prerogative. Don’t feel inhibited by PC crap. Your children are your business, don’t let the ‘village’ raise them or even touch them.

The world is a dangerous place. Parental instincts should not be sacrificed in the interest of ‘tolerance’ or ‘diversity.’ or fear of being labeled a ‘Homophobe.’

you do not even realize the obtuse contradiction of that statement do you son?

break free of the politcal correctness that is crippling your spirit to be a real man who actually knows and has the will to say to the world that the obsession homosexual men have for one another's anus is indeed revolting and he wants those fellers nowhere near his kids!

You made your choice, and you used a methodology that was not hurtful to the male. You certainly have a right to choose a hair stylist that cut your hair previously and you liked the way he/she cut it.

No flies on you. Don’t worry about it. And I wouldn’t let the liberals send me on a guilt trip for sure. Stop fallng for their krap.

Go find a barbershop patronized by older men

You and your son will both learn a lot, get a decent haircut for a decent price and I won't think Metro of you anymore.

"What an interesting poster you are, TheArizona."

Is "interesting" the new euphemism for "dazed and confused"?

Your choice, it’s a free country. I will say that I get my hair cut only by a specific stylist at a hair salon in Shanghai. The stylist is gay as a Liberace and RuPaul concert, with Richard Simmons opening. But it’s the best haircut I’ve ever had, and it’s one of the reasons why I keep going back...

Sometimes letting people do their job without judging their personal lives is the best way to witness as Christians, too... I know I have spoken many times with my stylist (Jesse is his “English” name I’m his only English speaking client and he loves to practice when I come in), and we’ve talked a few times about Buddhism and Christianity.

Christ spent time with the sinners, but was not of the sinners. It’s a good model, one that may benefit your son in the future.

I have a barber cut my hair all the time. She happens to work in a Salon, and I've been patronizing her for 16 years now. I happen to be a heterosexual male with a wife and 3 children that were born after I started seeing this Barber. She may call herself a 'Stylist' but she has a barber's license. She cuts my hair better than anyone ever has. I wouldn't use anyone else. If she died or chose another profession, I would be lost. I don't think going to a Salon for a haircut if you're male is an indication of anything.
