Fellow PGA Pros Speak Out On Tiger Woods: 'A Phony And A Fake'

Jay Busbee

This is how bad it's getting for Tiger Woods: even his fellow pros are now starting to speak out against him.

First it was Jesper Parnevik expressing his frustration and disappointment, saying he "probably thought [Woods] was a better guy than he is." But Parnevik's outrage is understandable, given that he was the one who initially introduced Elin Nordegren to Tiger Woods.

Now, however, two players with no apparent direct connection to the scandal are taking their shots at Tiger. Ben Crane, an eight-year pro with two wins on the PGA Tour, and Charles Warren, a six-year veteran of the PGA Tour, each sharply criticized Woods, on the record, in the current issue of Life & Style magazine. (Visor tip: Sports By Brooks)

"This is no surprise to anyone who knows Tiger," said Crane, pictured above. "He's a phony and a fake and he can't retain that squeaky-clean endorsement deal any longer."

Crane also hinted that Elin Woods could have known all about Woods' alleged extramarital activities. "She's no fool," he said, and speculated that she possibly "turned a blind eye because of the money and the kids and the lifestyle he provides."

Warren also had a bit of advice for Elin, with uncompromising words for Woods. "She was very young when Jesper introduced them," Warren said. "She had stars in her eyes and maybe dollar signs too. But no, she should not stay with him.

What kind of message would that send to her sister and mother and all the women out there? prominence and, in turn, their paychecks. But Crane's comments indicate that Tiger's alleged proclivities were an open secret among Tour players.

No one is saying they are destroying him. He's only capable of that. Kicking someone when they are down, IMO, isn't honorable.

You can crown the guys who supposedly spoke out all you want, you got yourself two more 'idols'.

...if every man in the universe with Internet access can see his wife’s goodies, should we be surprised if fidelity in the marriage might not be important?

Elin never shot naked. There were photoshop jobs made to make it look so, but she sued the creator and publisher of those fakes, and won.

She's done bikini modeling, to be sure. But people buy bikinis, and while they are very sexy shots, that's just due to Elin's great looks and health. There was nothing obscene about the real pictures at all.

That was at the Jacksonville Jaguars / Houston Texans game this Sunday.

That’s a Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleader with the club - apparently, the mocking was done with the cooperation of the stadium!

It was Tiger who marketed himself and his wholesome image.

I'm thinking of all the pain he has brought to his wife, Mother and his own children. He's promiscuous. This wasn't just an affair. Tiger stepped out on his PRENANT wife and for that alone, most women consider that to be the ultimate betrayal.

Elin should just leave that bad boy. She'll be fine.

How much money does anyone need, FGS?

RE: "According to Rush, Tiger’s escapades were well-known among the players and the media. Rush said he knew about a lot this for over two years. Tiger outed himself. I have no problem with his fellow pros telling the truth." ***************** Agree -- if the PGA doesn't have the guts to say something about the Woods situation, then I sure don't blame some players from speaking out. Woods has given the sport a terrible black eye -- he needs to be censured, even dropped from the PGA. It's true that golf was around long before Woods and will be around long after he is gone. Woods is a total embarrassment and took no care to hide any of this; clearly he isn't very smart; sending e-mails and texts to his various girlfriends. I'm disgusted by the entire scandal, and very glad Woods won't play Riviera in February when I attend that tournament as he gave up trying to win there long ago. A great 'sport' , Woods prefers only to play 'majors' and a few other tourneys that he knows he can probably win. Some role model -- between his arrogant and obnoxious behaviors on the golf courses and this messy scandal, he's a loser all the way around.

RE: “That said, I bet Jack Nicklaus is secretly smiling at this little scandal.”

****************

Agree. MOST of the others are likely secretly smiling a little more brightly right now — there are many young kids coming along all the time, too — any one of them could be a golf ‘great.’

Rush said he knew about a lot this for over two years.

And, of course, Rush would keep quiet - having had a few escapades of his own.

You’re responding to the wrong person (I did not write that first sentence, above) but I’ll comment anyway. What, besides the addiction to pain killers, is the common thread between Limbaugh and Woods?

Did Limbaugh womanize all over the place with low-rent females, cheating on his wife and kids whenever he saw fit? I’m serious, I have no background on Limbaugh. All I’ve heard about is the pill addiction

Do you really think Woods and Limbaugh share any similarities? Limbaugh is a radio personality — not some super sports hero to small kids and young males — not someone making millions for the likes of Nike, Tag Heuer and Accenture —

I have actually seen Woods brush off children seeking their hero’s autograph on autograph day at a tourney. Other times I’ve seen him throw the clubs, heard him swearing at everything and everyone — you name it.

Woods is a real embarrassment and his bad behaviors on the course are now outdone by his scandalous behaviors off the golf course. A big pox on him!

Tiger is slime. Golf has a tradition and Tiger is a slimeball who throw clubs, swears, lies, is a roid head and a serial adulterer. His fan boys drank the kool aid like Obama voters.

So he’s a slime - big deal. How does it affect your life? Are your taxes paying for his lifestyle?

Hey, your the one that is all fired up about this - NOT me! All the money he makes, he's a role model, etc., etc, etc.

I am not fired up about it. You are the one who seems invested in Tiger Woods and his image. You want to limit criticism.

You are the one that brought it up - saying his pix shouldn't be on the Wheaties box.

You must have a reading comprehension problem and you seem to take things literally. I bet he won't be on any future Wheaties box because the company won't want to project that image.

If you consider him a role model, you bought the lie from 'advertising scam'. Seems that's where you problem is - you were let down.

If you could read, you would see that I said the exact opposite. He isn't my role model nor are any of these athletes and entertainers. They are role models for children and some adults like you.

If you read the entire article, you might have noticed this

"Crane has strongly denied making the comments to Life & Style, saying that it would have been impossible for him to do so.

"Ben was very surprised and shocked to see these comments," Crane's agent, Tommy Limbaugh, said in an interview with Yahoo! Sports. "He never talked to anyone at Life & Style. He's done no interviews since the Children's Miracle Network at Disney Nov. 15. Ben wishes only the best for Tiger and Elin."

Surprised it took 97 posts for someone to notice the article is a fraud. This thread should be closed. As bad as Tiger has behaved there is no need to fall for phony journalism.

Read your posts - you know how much he makes, who promotes him, you're the one that is way too invested in Tiger. I have no idea who his sponsors are. Limit criticism? LOL!! You really think anyone can stop it? You are way too wee wee'd over him.

You must have a reading comprehension problem and you seem to take things literally.

LOL! I won't even comment on that.

They are role models for children and some adults like you.

All I've been hearing is how he doesn't give kids autographs, he screams/curses on the course - so why are these kids attracted to him?

some adults like you

You, again, are speaking out your butt! I didn't even know he was married till this scandal became headlines! Yet, you seem to know quite a bit about him. Stop looking for role models and you won't be so disappointed in 'man' when he lets you down. You are way too obsessed w/him and his endorsements - as your posts show.
