NHL WINTER SPORTS CLASSIC

The ice hockey rink is all set up at Fenway Park, in anticipation of the New Years Day meeting of the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins.

The game starts at 1 PM Eastern time on NBC. For those with the NHL Network, there are pre game and post game programs scheduled.

James Taylor is slated to sing the National Anthem, and with the recent snow storms in the northeast, the cold, windy, Boston weather could make this game an instant classic!

True. I grew up around the corner from Robbie Ftorek.

Indeed. I grew up with Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, Derek “The Turk” Sanderson, Johnny “Pie” McKenzie and Gerry “Cheesy” Cheevers as my heroes.

I want a re-match of Sabres/Pens. Come to think of it, they are playing tonight!

Go Sabres!

I was a big Ranger fan back in those days, and before too.

It is my opinion that Bobby Orr was probably the most superior athlete ever to play his sport. That is, he had so much more ability than anyone else who ever played his sport before or since.

Go Flyers! :) Love hockey. Don’t get it down in SW MO except A league games. Enjoy the game for me. (Ron Hextall fan)

LOL! Careful what you wish for!

Miller lost 4 of the last 5 games against the Pens.

I’m already watching the pre game on FSN Pittsburgh, BTW.

The game will be on NBC. 1 PM start time, New Years Day.

Hextall lost my respect when he came out of the net and attacked Chris Chelios at the end of a playoff loss.

Leaving Thurs. morning! Go Flyboys! Let’s be clear, Flyer fans are the best hockey fans. But I’m looking forward to visiting Beantown so no beer throwing at the game.

Nothing like those old Broad Street Bullies - Big Bad Bruins games.

Fixed it for ya!

I actually preferred the earlier rival with the Rangers and Bruins because my cousins were Ranger fans, but the Flyers and Bruins went at it pretty good.

So, who won? LOL!

FWIW, Chelios' brother Steve moved to Michigan and rented out the condo right behind my house for a year a few years ago........Quite a character if I might say so.....LOL!

He did give me a signed stick, puck and jersy by his brother Chris.......I gave the puck to my sister, and the stick and jersey to my nephew because he plays hockey and he can't afford new sticks all the time......
