I have a friend who's son is suffering from Post Tramatic Stress Disorder. She wanted to know if my friends the Freepers knew which websites or sources of information were the best. I told her I would ask. I'm asking.

Good Evening;

My question being where & how did he get his PTSD? Was it from a head injury, or a vehicle accident or related to combat...

sorry to hear.

I suffered from this when I came back from active service.
I never got onto any websites and I suppose the question is how bad is it.

I mean I had nightmares every night and it was the usual same nightmares night after night, sometimes me getting hardly any sleep.

After some time , years I started to get over it but even now I still get the occasional nightmare.

My only advice is to seek someone else who has had or has the same problem and talk to them.
I found talking ton those who do not have it a waste of time but when one talks to those who do have it then they know how it is and what each other are feeling.

I wish them luck and only time will help sadly.

If you want to know more I would be more than hapy to give advice on how it is and what needs to be done over private message

My FIL is a psychiatrist who works with the Veterans Administration with PTSD vets. I’ll chat with him. Where is your son’s at?

Tell him that he needs to go to the VA and get into a support group. There are plenty of guys that have seen the same things as he has and talk the same language.

The Marines have a pretty robust program to deal with Combat Operational Stress. Here is their website which points to some resources:

Depending on where he is living there are groups formed by Veterans for Veterans. Also he may have received a head injury [Traumatic Brain Injury](TBI for short) and there is a lot of problems connected with that as well. If so he may require meds to help get over the rough spots & help sleep.

I received my PTSD from a motorcycle accident,& now am listed as 100% disabled because of the other problems that have come on as a result of that. A brain injury may take 30-40 years to heal if at all. If he needs someone to talk to he may im me at one of the following Oldsarge1775@live.com or sgtsman1@yahoo.com
I work with a head injury support group & talk to 5&6 grade kids about head injuries.

My VA has groups where similarly situated vets talk to other vets , most effectively when shrinks and all staff are excused . I don’t know any combat vets who don’t have some of PTSD , whether they know it or not . I have convinced some vets , that being married five times , 20 job in 30 years , no friends , with substance and anger problems , might be your mind telling you something . The VA group is more than ever expected . God bless him and you for helping him . DAV and VFW are good alternative resources in some areas. A lot of us whose fathers were just thought to be meaner than snakes realize Pops had it from WWII or Korea

Thank you all so much. I am passing all this information on to my friend. She is just so worried about her son, and doesn’t know where to turn. I’m a vet too but didn’t know where to start except the gov. and not sure how much I trust them at the moment.

Again, Thank You to everyone who replied.
