Brett Grinde and his German shorthair, Effie, hadn't made it far on their typical late-afternoon walk on Monday when the old hunting dog suddenly began pulling to the right.
Grinde, a Pine County sheriff's investigator, let Effie lead the way as she strained with her nose to the ground along the road along Pokegama Lake. He let her off the leash and she tore away and turned into a driveway 40 yards away, stopping at the body of Grinde's 94-year-old neighbor, William Lepsch. He was unconscious and frozen to the ground.
"I ran after her and when I turned into the driveway I couldn't believe it," Grinde later wrote in an e-mail to Lepsch's family.
"He had some serious exposure and blood underneath him. I have seen plenty of deceased people and thought he was dead."

Love it! bttt
Dogs have amazing perception skills. They can tell when something is “wrong” even if they don’t WHAT is wrong.
If your dog doesn’t like someone, you should go with your dog’s sense.
A dog will die for you if need be and his/her last act will be to wag his/her tail in seeing you.
Let’s face it — dogs are better than most people.
Of course it’s a great story, German Shorthairs are the greatest dogs in the entire UNIVERSE!!
Good dog Effie. Job well done. Thank you God for this miracle.
....right behind black labs....
;-)
Well I have a black lab/German short hair mix so I must have the best dog alive:)
Right after Catahoula Leopard dogs! ;-)
Excellent dog!

(Deputy Grinde, if you are reading this, please give her a face massage. Start by putting your fingers flat on the top of her head, and rub upward with the thumb between her eyes. If she doesn’t like it she will pull back, if only slightly. If she does like it, she will push forward; more pushing means “press harder.” If she likes that, you could try gently grasping the loose skin in her snout and head and manipulating it with your fingers. If she likes it, she will groan and push for you to rub more/harder. We can rub our own faces, dogs can’t.)
My buddy’s yellow lab just wants someone to sit with a knee sticking out that she can back her rear end up and just push, back and forth for ever......
Aww....crap...
