I couldn’t believe Cass hadn’t shown up on anybody’s list yet.

"Say what you will about her but Amy Winehouse has an incredible voice."

Crazy woman, but yes, Winehouse can sing.

Totally agree regarding Karen Carpenter..no one could sing like her..she had a marvelous alto voice! I often think of her with sadness.. such a loss - she died very young..I think she was only 32 years old.

But, wouldn’t it have been been wonderful if Richard had produced a “standards” album with Karen.. it would have been a classic!

Sigh..there’s a lot of “what if’s”...

Oleta Adams. Her background is gospel but she had a great pop hit around the time of Desert Storm called “Get Here.” It was kind of an anthem for some friends’ wives. I encourage all here to give it a listen.

Another vote here for the pride of Mayfield, KY - Rosemary Clooney.

And one hot babe in her time, too!

Etta James
Barbara Lynn
Barbara Lewis
Mitty Collier
Anita Carter (I know she’s part of the Carter Family, and also recorded duets with a number of male singers, but she had a long solo career, too)
Patsy Cline
Gail Davies
Dodie Stevens (She’s much more than Pink Shoelaces - she could REALLY sing serious ballads even when she was only 13)
Connie Francis
Dusty Springfield or Connie Smith
I was going to say Janet Vogel of the Skyliners, but, DUH, that’s a group. Still, she’s awesome and underrated. I chose Dusty almost in lieu of Janet, I’ve heard some songs where Janet sings lead and noted strong similarities.

Agree on the choices of Anne Murray, Alison Krauss and Jane Olivor as really good voices.

As far as vocals go, Karen Carpenter could out-sing anyone.

The pride of West Haven , CT was good, but I don't recall her working solo.
