February 22, 2010 marked the thirtieth anniversary of the 'Miracle on Ice,' the day Minnesota's Herb Brooks led the United States hockey team to defeat the supposedly unbeatable Soviet Union team in a medal-round game at the Olympics in Lake Placid.
Retired photographer Denny DeGriselles shot the game for 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.
He shared his memories of the game with Steve Shaw.
“And no one is EVER going to convince some people that the Earth is not flat.”
Agree with that, but we know all of the flat-earthers are wrong.
It’s funny — I liked the movie “Miracle” a lot, and they told the story about as well as a movie could tell it. At the end, though, I was a tiny bit disappointed. I think it’s because, having lived through the real thing, no film re-telling could ever measure up to the original. (Sort of like if they made a movie of RWR going to Berlin and saying “Tear down this wall!”) However, it really was a well-done film, and if you didn’t live through the Miracle on Ice, or you weren’t paying attention at the time, you definitely need to see it.
I homeschool, and I used the movie “Miracle” to teach the kids about that era in American history, where the Democrats had run this country into the ground and destroyed so much.
Then Reagan won.
It’s pretty clear that the Soviets were badly underestimating the USA team. They had beaten them earlier in an exhibition game 10-3. The second USA goal was inexcusable; at the end of the second period, off a rebound that the goalie should’ve controlled, with two USSR defensemen standing around watching the clock tick down to zero rather than actually, y’know, defending. I re-watched the highlights on Youtube yesterday and was struck by how the Soviets seemed to be moving at half-speed, like a practice, until Eruzione’s goal woke them up into sheer flailing panic mode.

Sorry, end of the first period. I’d forgotten that it was 2-2 at the end of the first and that’s when the Soviet coach pulled Tretiak and put in the other goalie.

That is incorrect. The Americans had a tie with Sweden in the preliminary round, and won all of their other games.
“And I bet no one is going to convince you that man made global warming is bunk.”
Hell, I live in Houston, and it was HOT last summer (we even got over 90 degrees). So I agree...something needs to be done.
